A long time ago we already experimented with
h.265 encodes, but they were horrible: pixelization,
laggy playback, skipping audio, limited playback to a
crappy decoder etc. etc.
What is h.265 you ask?
HEVC is said to double the data compression ratio
compared to H.264/MPEG-4 AVC at the same level of video
quality. It can alternatively be used to provide substantially
improved video quality at the same bit rate. It can support
8K UHD and resolutions up to 8192x4320.

Fast forward to 1 week ago, multicoreware's x265 encoder
starts receiving some love from our side with short
1000 frame test encodes of different movies. Quality of
Playback also greatly increased with Strongene's
Lentoid HEVC/H.265 Decoder and alternatively (also our
choice) LAVFILTER (built into MPC-HC).
Wednesday, 2:00 PM - The Gang Pres x265

So what is this all about? Well it's the world's first
proper x265 encode of a triple AAA title, Skyfall. Our
release should 100% work on every regular (modern)
computer that runs the latest MPC-HC player, or a player
of your choice that can either use the LAVFILTER or
LENTOID decoders. It took us 1 whole week of encoding
to get this far (encode log is attached at the end of
our NFO).
Halfway through the encode a new x265 rev was released
adding CRF capabilities aswell as psychovisuals, but
to not void our spent encoding time, we decided to wait
and not upgrade to that revision. You can expect our next
x265 encode once psychovisuals are properly implemented
to avoid the destruction of backgrounds. (We experimented
with it but its still buggy).
6500 kbps was chosen, because we expect this to be the
average bitrate necessary to have nice encodes of digitally
shot movies, once x265 is past it's pre-alpha stage.

Installation/Playback Guide:
For Novices:
Get the latest MPC-HC Nightly build from here (for the
time being we have only confirmed x86 to work, although
x64 should too, we haven't tested it though):

Extract the player to any folder (no installation required
if you get the 7zip) then open the .mkv with the player.
The built-in LAV filter of MPC-HC should take care of
everything for you.
For Experts:
Either get lavfilters from here
http://code.google.com/p/lavfilters/downloads/list
or
Strongene's Lentoid from here:
http://xhevc.com/en/hevc/decoder/download.jsp
And add them to your player of choice (if possible).
Some Tweaks:
If your machine cant handle HEVC/x.265 in software
decoding, you can try to use hardware acceleration to
increase playback performance.
Open the LAV Video Filter settings and choose DXVA2 (native)
in the hardware acceleration tab.
