it's really a shame what this has become, after the very enjoyable DS1 and 2 (especially 2).

But damn, DS2 didn't age well at all. It's like really butt ugly lol.

I mean, Titan Quest came out just a year later and it looks awesome still to this day.

(DS2:broken sword was actually released a month after titan quest and quite frankly, the quality of the graphics is substantial ...)

Yeah. Also, camera controls are quite fucked up.

My biggest problem with the game is probably that it's named Dungeon Siege 3, despite having virtually nothing to do with the franchise. Having said that, I actually liked it better than the originals (finished both DS1 and DS2, but it always turned into a chore near the end due to repetitivness and boredom - even though I normally like H&S games).

No, man, keep us posted. Keep them going. Many of those releases are usually under the radar. Strange enough, Prophet releases are low profile and rarely i see those around.

And, Sabin, you are not the only one that loved DS3. But, again, i'm the kind of person that played Alpha Protocol for 6 times so far and i still want to play that game again. Me and Obsidian's games have a strange relation Very Happy

Maybe I would have liked it too... if it didn't pretend to be something it's not. As a huge Dungeon Siege fan I absolutely despise this piece of shit.

i REALLY tried to like DS3 , but ... i just couldn't Sad And it's not the controls, those were fine. It's the whole game. It's not Dungeon siege to begin with and it's just ... blerg. but what really pissed me off, is how fucking BAD dungeon siege 1 and 2 have aged. I mean DS1 ok, it's old as shit. But DS2 came out at the same time with games like TQ (which aged like nothing else). DS2 is so fucking ugly, i really wonder, how low my standards were back then (good old 1024/768 times i guess lol).

DS rip. And please stay dead (Space Siege .. really ?)

Yeah, DS1 hasn't aged well at all (though the gameplay and music are still top-notch) but I still think DS2 hangs in there.

oh and DS1 is/was just a interactive screensaver anyways Smile auto attack, auto follow, auto everything Smile

it's like day and night

and that's coming from someone who finished DS2 and abso-freaking loved it .. back then.

There's no comparison though, TQ was epic when it came out and it was an epic machine-rape too Very Happy DS2 just used the same engine from DS1 with some improvements. It's not great but it does still hang in there, especially compared to previous games. Crysis launched in 2007, you know what else came out in 2007? Half-Life 2 Episode 2 and Call of Duty 4. Does that mean everything else is shit "considering Crysis launched the same year"?

oh i am not at all belittling ds2. It was a HUGE improvement over ds1 (which was really just a screen saver, aka a self playing game). DS2 achieved like no other to mix RPG with hack n Slash and i absolutely loved and enjoyed playing and finishing it back then. but from a visual/esthetique point of view, it simply is abysmal. mediocre at best.

seriously, TQ , from a visual/esthetique point of view, is like immortal. it onl gets better with every new generation of hardware etc. it's the prime example of a game that is future prrof /adaptive. it only gets better. That's some class AAA coding right there. RIP iron Lore. Fuck THQ.

Don't worry about Iron Lore being dead, they're very much alive in Crate Entertainment and Grim Dawn looks set to wrest the mantle away from TQ, it's like TQ2, only without the mythological setting. If you haven't yet; I strongly recommend getting the beta, it's 10 hours of TQ-esque monster/zombie slaying yumminess.

ah yeah damn, forgot about that. the king is dead, long live the king Smile

Honestly, looking at what iron lore created with TQ (the ONE hack n slash that came the closest to dethrone D2 , if it was given the proper online platform, which it wasnt) and what i have seen so far from Grim dawn, i can say i am 100% positively excisted and hyped (in a good sense).

imho there hasn't been a proper hack n slash worth the name since D2 and TQ. And the one real reason D2 is still the king, lets be honest, is Battle.net. i mean seriously, show me a game, that came out 13 years ago and is still has a FREE online service (including regular ladder resets and even addition to gameplay for free lol and bug fixes). It's one of the reasons i still have an ounce of faith left in Blizzard Smile

I'm about 8 hours into my *third* playthrough of Dungeon Siege 3, damn you all for bringing it up and making me want to replay it again Razz Still loving the game, I felt that it was the perfect kind of aRPG - much like my beloved Snowblind-engine titles on the Xbox/PS2 - just enough to settle back and veg out on, mashing through hordes of enemies and acquiring tons of loot. It helps that the visuals are quite nice too Very Happy Hated the demo at first, it irritated me to no end, but yeah.. playing the full game changed my mind and my opinion immensely. I'm just about to start the "Treasures of the Sun" DLC and it is depressing to think that nothing else is coming for the game, the lack of sales is a goddamn shame it really is, because as far as hack'n'slash aRPGs go, this is great.

Not many, though check out D&D Daggerdale and LotR War in the North, they're both nearly identical. As for emulating? There's a whole SERIES of games like this on PS2/XB/GC but sadly their emulation status is beyond terrible - they're *playable* in software mode now, but the performance in PCSX2 is awful. Hardware mode would fix that but sadly HW mode is broken and doesn't work Sad Anyway, check out;

Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance 1 + 2 (PCSX2 though BGDA1 is playable on Dolphin as the GC version)
Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel (PCSX2)
Champions of Norrath 1 + 2 (PCSX2)
The Bard's Tale (on PC as well)
D&D Daggerdale (on PC as well)
LotR War in the North (on PC as well)
Marvel Ultimate Alliance (on PC as well)
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 (Dolphin with the gimped Wii version, no PC/PS2 version exists)

Oh and the obligatory mentions of Sacred 2, DeathSpank and Titan Quest.

Aww not a remaster or re-release announcement but maybe that could happen, return of D.J Beholder and his laser show. Very Happy

(See it's not a D&D rip ours has lasers!)

EDIT: And the giant chicken dungeon.

Don't remember Dungeon Siege 2 too well, giant man with sword and a number of improvements to the game and engine plus a higher supported but comparably low render resolution was it?

Obsidian getting to do something but having to call it Dungeon Siege 3, not terrible but it needed more time and updates and the DLC only showed some of what could have been. Smile
(From memory at least, been some years after all but that goes for the entire series.)

Dungeon Siege 2 was more Action RPG Oriented. But the Engine is fuckugly and didin't age well at all (unlike games like Titan Quest which are like WTF? How can that game still hold up all this time later?)

So DS2 was a lot about kickass items and stuff and not just "Sword +1" Smile

Grim Dawn uses the same engine(I think) and doesn't look that well in 2020.
