I'm surprised the #1 suggestion/request/demand so far hasn't been "let us modify an engine once it has been made" -- having to create an entirely new engine just to add mouse support? Holy shit, Activision would be broke by the end of the year
I played this game a long time ago and back then it had lots and lots of issues. It gave little feedback or clues to what went wrong, and it seemed almost random whether a title would succeed or fail. Then I found out there basically is a recipe to how to succeed at the game, certain combinations of features would nearly always be a success whilst others weren't (even ones that actually works IRL). So essentially if you figure out what combinations the game has predetermined that you should succeed with, you'll do well, but ... it still gets frustrating.
I found that the game at times made little sense, reviews gave no pointers to what I did wrong, just generic feedback. Also there were little clues as to the differences between different engines or graphics ... like, what is the difference between 3d graphics 1 or 2? You just have to guess.
It's sort of like a rockstar ate my hamster done about computer games. But unless the game changed since when I last played it, I think it's a pretty bad game.
The game is great. its way better and way more deep than GDC. The only flaw I noticed (besides the inevitable GUI bugs) is that even during the text games period my games were getting low scores because of the graphics.... Well.. if its text based I didn't invest anything in graphics of course.
GamersGoMakers is great, way more accessible and approachable than GDT while at the same time offering more control over your games. It still suffers from "What, why?" syndrome with the reviews though .. there needs to be more detailed documentation that tells you what features a game needs to have concentrated on in order to "impress" the reviewers.
Game is very nice, and the soundtrack keeps me hypnotised!
The lack of sexual content in my Education - School game seemed to be distasteful to my german friends though
"Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life." ~Berthold Auerbach
There's another one that's just come out the woodwork called "Mad Games Tycoon" and this one actually looks pretty damned good too, though I'm not keen on the "build your own office" mechanic since... well... I suck at designing buildings
