That's how Max Payne 3 looks on consoles too. And the thing about draw distances is, if done right, there really isn't that much geometry detail as it seems. So I am not sure if a Max Payne looking at a favela in the distance is less complicated graphically than a city in the distance in GTA5. And in the case that Rockstar actually optimized their engine, they could achieve what they had in Max Payne 3.
But don't get an Xbox, just wait for the PC version a few months.
I didn't see MP3 on consoles, so I can't comment on that. I just don't understand the "looks a bit better than GTA4" comments. My eyes must be broken.
Post some screenshots or links and I will tell you what I like or dislike about them.
There's at least one in the GTA4 thread. Let me look for it and I'll edit and link to it
Fuuuuuuuuu, they removed the ones I was talking about, so these I found on my HD will have to do, oh and please forgive the unwanted aliasing on those, I hadn't started to use a FXAA injector at that time

Yet when I posted on the GTA4 thread the ones that got removed, which were using the exact same settings (except with proper AA) and which were very very similar to these you said, textually:

These look best to be honest, and actually fit GTA4's world and story. All the color crapola, especially in the screenshots from the GTA forums linked previously are awful. There is one where they seemingly took all lighting to minimum and ramped up color saturation to the maximum.
That sounds almost the exact opposite of your current critique

What here contradicts what I said?
They look the best because they don't have all the usual ENB shit enabled. What of what I said here is not true? Look at the trees. Look at the niggas on the side - no diffuse shading at all, just flat. Where is the color in the "red" car?
Some ENBs look pretty decent as long as you heavily customize them, but the big problem is, the performance is already bad by default, so unless you enjoy playing games at 20-30fps (KC-way ) they're a no-go.
Hopefully GTA V won't require them since the game has a lighting system that works.
edit:
This one for example is great in my opinion, but it literally destroys the framerate:

Sounds to me like we're not talking about the same screens
Now that's more like it, that ICE 2.5 video looks amazing.
The motion blur looks retarded to me. Still nothing beats the per-object motion blur of Crysis 1. Shading is still bad (engine limitation that cannot be solved). But at least here there are colors.
Max Payne 3 looks better than anything shown in this video.

I have no idea where that post is from. I say something about "color saturation". Do you know what that is? "There is one where they seemingly took all lighting to minimum and ramped up color saturation to the maximum. " sounds exactly like the ones you posted and is exactly what I said "Like the blacks are crushed, no color".

You replied that on the GTA4 thread in response to a screen I posted that looked very much like the couple I posted today. So you obviously liked it better than most of the "crapola" you saw on gtaforums.com, which btw served as base for the awfulness of the successive ICEnhancer releases.
The bummer here is that the mentioned pic was removed
I guess it comes down to personal preference, I still think that ICEnhancer stuff can look incredible - like in that 2.5 video and especially in the one ixi linked to as that one is, to me, simply jaw-dropping - but I understand engine limitations are inherent and can prevent it looking even better, no matter how many external hooks are used. All I know is that I'd love to have a rig capable of playing like that
~edit~
That video from ixi reminded me of this (spoilered because huge!)

So I loaded the game up and it seems my memory of it was wrong. Texture quality is roughly the same; for as far as that matters in 4, as they're terribly bland.
Fuck knows why I remembered something better, since I never applied ICE or ENB at all. Maybe it's because of all the screenshots with those posted all the time, dunno
It could just be something as innocuous as memory, mate, five years is a hell of a long time to remember something like texture and lighting quality in a game -- unless it's truly stand-out, like Crysis.
But ENB does not really fix the problems discussed. Look at the videos above. Look at the faces of people or their clothes. No shading at all (shading is not shadows!!).
Shading without shadows:
(Shadow should have been cast from the nose, for example.)
Shadows without shading:
(If there was shading, the cube and spheroid surfaces would have been shades of gray.)
Tell me, which one of these do you see in the videos above?
Oh I don't expect ENB to fix the issues of the engine, I completely agree with you on that! But ENB/ICE most certainly does improve the world and car quality, which is what you see most of the time when playing anyhow.
