"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

(Albeit I guess the Titan and GT780 have enough raw power to change that.) | Oh
Too bad then, it would be really funny if it really was AMD exclusive

AMD was always about keeping things open when it came to their GPU "extras". TressFX works better on AMD partly, because it was designed by AMD and obviously would be better optimised for it, but also because their GPUs have much better compute performance overall (or had, at least - not sure how much has changed with the 780s etc).
With consoles using AMD hardware now, I imagine we will see some more use for compute, so there might be less need for fancy TrexxFX promotions. Games will simply use the technology, when needed.

NVidia sucks boo
HD7950 was such a beast compared to 660Ti.
FPS: 41.1
Score: 1034
Min FPS: 22.0
Max FPS: 96.2
In Heaven 4.0 at Extreme preset :l
Those were with 1175.8 Core and 1800.9 Memory (GPU-Z)
Is not amused, think I broke 1200 on my HD7950 in it <.<

Do you guys think there is any point in getting a 4Gb version of GTX 770 for future-proofing or should I just stick with the 2Gb one? I'm planning to keep the card for 1.5-2 years. I think Crysis 3 and modded Skyrim can already exceed the 2Gb limit on higher resolutions and next-gen console ports will probably require more memory too. I'm not planning to go above 1920x1080 though.

Well it's not THAT much more expensive, the only games i have seen so far exceed the 2GB where Bioshock infinite and my modded skyrim.
C3 didn't exceed 2GB
It's really up to you, i took a 4GB just to be safe, was only a few € extra anyway.

Keeping the card for two years and at 1080 res, 2GB should be fine. Then again if it is just an extra $40..

770 a.k.a renamed 680 is not really that optimal for the 4GB VRAM, since its memory bus width cant really handle the 4GB VRAM that good (sometimes 2GB model is faster).

AMD to reveal Radeon HD 9000 flagship GPU next month, slashes 7990 prices
https://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/amd-to-reveal-radeon-hd-9000-flagship-gpu-next-month-slashes-7990-prices/0119858
| Quote: | The next generation of AMD PC graphics cards will be officially revealed on September 25th.
BSN reports that AMD’s 9000 flagship, codenamed Hawaii and part of its Volcanic Islands family of cards, will be shown off at a special press even tin Hawaii itself.
It will presumably carry the 9970 branding.
It is understood that the card will be launched in October and will likely be co-marketed with EA’s Battlefield 4. The GPU itself will be 28nm based and include a number of significant architectural changes over the current 7000 series
AMD’s other 9000 series cards will be announced at a later date. These include the performance Maui (9950?), the mainstream Ice Land (9850?) and the entry-level Tonga (9750?).
As well the 9970’s performance, AMD’s pricing plans will be of very high interest. Nvidia’s GTX Titan and GTX 780 currently rule the performance roost but are very expensive at around £800 and £550 respectively. AMD has been keen to take the price fight to Nvidia in recent times and many will hope it chooses to continue this tradition.
Speaking of which, AMD has also slashed the price of its current performance leader the HD 7990 which can today be had for as little as £590.90 – that’s a saving of the best part of £200 compared to earlier this week. Don’t forget, too, that AMD’s new beta drivers for the card have significantly improved its performance. |
maybe i'll change my 560ti with the over9000,if nothing better comes in the next year.

Nice, tho these are just rumours. Would not be any surprising tho, AMD has much better compute power anyway..7970 Crushed GTX 680 in Firestrike.

Too bad its 28nm again, older rumors were speaking of 20nm, wasn't AMD aiming for 20?
I hope the Maxwell cards deliver on that front next year

The 8000 series is associated with the OEM PC GPU's or something, thus they skip that and go for 9000 instead, possibly also changing the naming system if those rumors are to be believed.
(AMD-R9xx or what it was, I forgot but it wasn't official or confirmed, just a speculation on what it might be changed to.)
