Unless they manage to pull the same creative team. You put too much faith and credit in CliffyB like people do with Karmack. He is a legend and such but he alone or/and with new team will never make Unreal as great as original was. Not "spiritual successor" definitely. More like another Unreal game a-la U2 >_>
Personally I think Unreal 1 was highly, very highly underrated game and in some aspects much greater than HL.

People always gave CliffyB too much credit. He was a mapper for Unreal, nothing else, and while his maps were good they were far from the best in UT/2k3/2k4. His pre-Unreal days with Dare To Dream and Jazz Jackrabbit were amazing though.

- Tim Sweeny believes in the next 10 years graphics "for environments" will become absolutely indistinguishable from reality.
- Epic is developing Fortnite for PC which is a small project (35 people) which won't have groundbreaking graphics and is of limited scope, and a AAA TPS (that is probably NOT Gears). There are several other much smaller projects as well.
- The lead platform for their games is the PC. They are made on PC and then ported from consoles to tablets and everything in between. The reason is that the PC market is bigger than the console market once you include the Chinese and Korean online game markets, which as I've speculated before Epic is after these days.
- He expects we will see UE4 games by the end of 2014.. These include from AAA games to F2P Korean games.
tl;dr Epic is in love with Korean/Chinese F2P market.

I spoke with guys from AMD. They are pretty hyped about the fact that both consoles use their hardware. Also they think that it will boost their sales in desktop markets both CPU and mostly GPU as it will be easier to port games from consoles. They are going to invest hard into the Never Settle deal but you will have to wait for B4 in it for at least a couple of months after its initial release.
