holy cow ...

The sky is flashing every second (no kidding) with light. It's like a fucking disco here. But the curious thing is , there is almost no thunder. The flashes are like all around us and over us, but only very seldom one is followed by the expected thunder.

This is now going on for several tens of minutes ... and it's fucking strange as can be.

when i wrote the topic, it was still a mix of a lot of lightning and a little thunder. Now it's only lightning and no thunder at all. Not a single noise. Albeit the lightning is quite far away, so i guess the sound just doesn't goes that far. But the amount of lighting strikes is just *what the fuck*

It's been like half an hour now and lightning went down every second or even faster. And it's still going on, but it's moving further and further away and finally it's like bright outside rofl.

Back when I used to live in England, my elder brother and I would take a couple of cans and go down the beach.. sit on the sand and watch the lightning out at sea during storms. Glorious! ^_^

I miss proper storms :/ I only saw lightning twice here and it was rather puny, while in Belgium where I lived we had these epic lightning shows. *sad panda* Yup even better ones than the coastal area in the vid!

Yeah, that's true enough - I've been lucky *so far* though, I've never had any spikes that have damaged equipment. Besides, there are always surge protectors built into most half-decent power strips. I take it you've lost something to surges? Sad

Yeah. Fucking love thunderstorms. The only bad thing about them is that if it comes with incredibly heavy rain, the bathtub's drain backs up. Nothing massive, just a bit of splashing, so a tissue thrown over the hole just about prevents the shit getting on the tub's walls. Very Happy

Anyways, the flashes are beautiful, and the heavy rain making that faint sound on the roof is relaxing.

Lighting hit my house so pretty much it went dark for a minute or two.. When the power came back everything was quite fine, except for some weird reason all of my pc case vents broke, burned smell and everything, but yeah pretty weird.

PS: Goddamn you, thunder.

I live in a typical soviet block of flats but didn't have some power problems, remarkably.
My UPS did beep twice during the storm but it must have been some minor power fluctuation because there was no power loss or surge (sockets are fine, other house electronics too) since my digital clock wasn't blinking in the morning Razz

That's seriously impressive...would make a great catastrophic movie, where earth's magnetic field suddenly flips and huge Soviet tripods decide to pop out from the ground to abduct the evil capitalist nemesis named Thudo Very Happy

When I said 2hrs straight, I lied. Around my strong Estonian capital city the lightning struck for around 5 hrs straight Surprised
The peak was around 1 to 3 AM and 601 lightning strikes per 15 minutes at its peak.

Oddly enough I only found out about this now. That looks mighty impressive.

After that scorching (by my local standards) heat we had here, I was expecting a bigass thunderstorm, but it never arrived. I guess we have you northeners to thank for fending it off Very Happy
Missed quite a spectacle though, it seems Sad

Edit: Also interesting how much the climate changes moving from north to south even in such a small country.
