|
 |
I am about to upgrade my pc.
Mainly I use it for work in Adobe CS, on over 2gb psb workfiles, renders in aftereffects and cinema4d work.
I know that I lack RAM and CPU power.
RAM I want to upgrade to at least 16gb ddr3.
my budget is around 300-400 euro for cpu, ram and mobo.
my current setup (built in 2009)
CPU: - Intel® Core™2 Quad Processor Q8300 (4M Cache, 2.50 GHz, 1333 MHz FSB)
Motherboard: Asus p5q pro turbo
RAM: Corsair 4gb ddr2
and upgraded last year:
HDD: Samsung ssd 830 series 256gb
graphicscard: Sapphire hd 7870 xt 2gb gddr5
thanks in advance for the help!

thanks for the advice guys!
what's your take on the Xeon E3-1230V3?
with the ASUS B85-Plus (C2)
and some Corsair XMS3 DIMM Kit 16GB PC3-12800U CL11 (DDR3-1600)
The setup is kind of urgent, cause I need to finish a project till 16th of August and that would be available at vendors nearby.
@farne: nope. am from austria.

Mobo you could be fine with a €60,- one, no need for expensive bullshit. (my €60,- GA-Z68AP-D3 has even better benchmarks then my friend has on his €200,- SABERTOOTH Z77, so most mobo propaganda is bullshit.)
Ram go for the hyperx or (but almost nothing cheaper) valueram from Kingston, big bang for buck tbh and shouldn't be more then €90-100
CPU is going to be a bitch tho, you defo want to get SB (2600k)/IB(3770k) or Haswell(4770k) and defo HT on it.
But since they are still around €250+ you gonna be a tad above budget.

You don't need to get the K variant if you are not going to overclock in the first place. And if you aren't OCing, you can just go for the features that you want on your mobo and save some money for cpu and ram.

But why go for such expensive mobo's anyway?!
My €60,- one works just as fine as any €200,-, with exception of a second PCI-E 8.0 lane (mine is 4.0, yet notice no mayor differences with other users that put tons of money in their mobo)..
In the end it's all about real world performance and when it comes to that, all the bullshit around expensive mobo's just ain't worth it.

I have old 2500k and It is still fantastic one of best i5's out there, so anything aboive that will be awesome.
As for ram - Take whatever. Skip those huge ripjaws or something coolers. Just get some simple kingstone blu or anything.
ram don't really matter much with i5/i7.
mobo? here I have no idea. I have asrock and its a good mobo (old p67 chipset tho) but It reeks of cheap materials... I would say asus, but isnt asrock using asus factories ?

It has cheap materials because you chose to skimp out on the mobo, a.k.a nearly cheapest model what Asrock has. Also who started the thread, i would just get used SB/Ivy i7 setup for that budget, since people are retards and sells them for cheap these days (because they must have the newest shit a.k.a Haswell which gives just placebo effect)

Yeah expensive mobo's are just placebo effect.
Like i said, did a 1on1 test with a Sabertooth Z77 (€200) and i5-3570k vs my GA-Z68AP-D3 (€60) and i7-2600k.
Both same OC, i turned off HT, both on same GTX770.
Made sure as much as possible was the same.
Yet most tests we have virtually the same results, in the end, i had 2 tests where i had the lead.
So yeah, i know first hand that it's bullshit and the guy regrets buying it and will not make the same mistake again.

You wanna have a look at Z77 E4 and say that again about a placebo effect.
Or any other motherboard with equally shitty MOSFETs that would never last under heavy overclocking.
So no, your 60€ board isn't equal to a 200€ board, far from it.
Overclockability is barely affected in any price range (Except for shitty voltage control on cheap boards) but the quality of the components, especially VRM/MOSFET make a huge difference.

I doubt it's as good but I also doubt that it will make any difference for him, if he is not going to use SLI, CF or overclocking. Sometimes I see hardware nerds suggesting 1666+MHz RAM, 800+W power supply, 160+€ mainboard and stuff for an office PC

That was my point pumpy, the guy who bought that €200,- mobo thought it would be better straight off the bat.
While he hardly OC's (only MP) nor does multi-gpu setup or any other shit that would make both mobo's sweat.
That's why i claim that (and i should had said, for those people) there is no difference between the €60,- and the €200,- one

that's like claiming there is no difference between cheap piece of crap PSU and quality one, because initially computers appear to be working fine with both, but as time passes person with cheap PSU runs in increasing amount of problems.

I had my worst mobo problems with the "most" expensive one that I bought (120€ at that time?!).. But that is some years ago and epox does not exist anymore
Now I just go for any 50-70€ mainboard that is not micro atx.
