My wife is American ( born in MS ) so she was brought up churchy! She`s been here ( UK ) about 8 years now and not really kept up with the church thing.

She recently lost her Dad to cancer and having a tough time working out things..
Why did God take him, make him suffer etc...

Been asking me questions about how I see things ( non-churchy )

So.. here`s the deal..

I am going to find a good tv program that shows evolution and how we go to be how we are.

and she`s going to find something that explains what she knows/understands

Anyone know of a good show and explains the beginning, middle and end ? from pond life to Human??

thanks

This was good http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p00xnr43

Only 70,000 years back though but it has the basics on most things like religion and how it came to be and stuff.

You should consider it might be a bad thing to try and take religion away under the circumstances though, belief in something might be beneficial to someone who has never thought about the possibility of there being nothing after death.

Ryzen 5 5600, ASUS ROG STRIX B550-F GAMING WIFI II, Corsair Vengeance RGB RT 32GB 3600MHz C16, MSI RTX 5070 Ti Ventus 3X OC , Corsair RMx Series RM750x. AOC AGON AG324UX - 4K 144Hz 1ms

Not exactly sure what science lessons have to do with dealing with her father's death.

As much as I hate religion trying to essentially convert your wife by using the trauma of her father's death is an asshat thing to do.

I`m not trying to convert her Mchart! she has been asking questions about stuff.

Her fathers death has just brought thoughts and feelings to the forefront.

She has expressed curiosity about evolution and such...she wanted to have a look at how we go to be ( the other side of the coin )

There`s no converting going on...

You might be right here...

I wasn`t trying to take religion away... but it could have adverse effects Sad

Google with her "evolution" or whatever, much faster and more in depth. I mean I don't see why it has to be a TV show, when you can easily find a lot of articles covering these subjects. Smile

TWIN PEAKS is "something of a miracle."
"...like nothing else on television."
"a phenomenon."
"A tangled tale of sex, violence, power, junk food..."
"Like Nothing On Earth"

The truth shall set you free.

And what better, then to replace a belief in something as stupid and fake as religion, and to replace it with .. i dunno .. the actual reality and truth ?

What fascinates me is that in so-called most technologicaly advanced country in the world, land of the free and brave and whatnot, you can still be raised "churchy way" and growing up knowning nothing about basic science stuff kids in Europe know when they are 14 years old.

Fuck you, America, I hope China invade you in 10 years when you completely run out of money.

I was raised as a "semi" christian, like a lot of Norwegians are. My mother consider herself christian. But we never went to chuch, prayed for our food ('MERICA ) or mentioned god on a daily basis. But we had a bible laying around, and my mother asked if I wanted to read it... I said yes, read a couple of pages. I was around 8-9 I think... and even back then I felt it was a little far out. Yeah, I was a skeptical child Wink

And the first year of school I remember having the feeling that christianity is the right religion, because the teacher read parts of the bible and we had to discuss what i meant afterwards -.-
Now kids are learning about all the religions and are totally neutral Everything Went Better Than Expected

there is a fundamental difference between "being raised christian" or being indoctrinated into an absurd belief of creationism.

I was raised christian as well, like almost every one in my age (33, but when i grew up, it was normal to be raised somewhat religious). We went to sunday school and later to church. We learned church and bible songs and read the stories from the bible etc.

But nobody every tried to convince us, that the bible is to be taken literally. Quite the contrary. We were always told, that the stories were more about the moral meaning in them. Also nobody every told us, that the earth is 6000 year old or some bullcrap like that.

for example, about the go created the earth in 7 days stuff. We were always told, that you cant take that literally. 7 days in there are more like 4 billion years. So they kinda adapted it to fit evolution, not the other way around.

Hitchhikers guide.

It's from the eightys so some of the effects are ropey, but the story's as good as ever (far better than the bloody awful film)

I think the "made easy" series by potholer54 are a brilliant condensed summary of everything from birth of the universe up to today.
No useless filler, just condensed science and history of discovery.
They can easily be watched from start to finish in order.

Just watched the first ep and while the stuff is pretty much known by someone with a good education, it's very nicely condensed. So I agree with shole. this is probably the best way to go for her. What makes it better even is that it concentrates on only proven facts and none of the speculation which is often taken by the christian extremists as proof that everything is wrong

But it was from 80s/90s so the creation of earth isn't well explained Wink
