Hi there,

I was at a friend's place the other day and we were trying to connect his laptop (Lenovo z570) to a Hisense LCD tv (unsure of the model at this time) via a HDMI cable.

Said cable works because it's been used prior to this to connect a PS3 to the same Hisense Tv and it works like a charm (so i'm assuming that both the cable and the hdmi input of the TV are functional).

We've also previously managed to connect said Laptop using the same cable to a Samsung and a Panasonic LCD tvs, but whenever we try to connect it to the Hisense, windows doesn't seem to detect the 2nd display.

He is running windows 7 on his machine, and we've actually got it to work at one point by accident. What happened is that both the laptop and the display were shut down, we connected the cable, turned both the devices on and as soon as it hit the Windows log-on screen the image was displayed on the TV. After one restart, the Tv was displaying all the pre-windows stuff and as soon at it hit the login screen the screen just went blank with the no-signal message on the TV. And it's been like that ever since.

We've tried all the Fn key + F keys combinations and nothing seems to get the image to display either on both displays (laptop and Tv) or just on the TV.

Does anyone have any idea why this is happening ? Any help would be appreciated Very Happy

Display drivers up to date?
Tried forcing the laptop to manually check for connected displays (by using the "Detect" button in the display settings)?
Also, the only Fn key that should be needed is the one for external displays, not sure which one it is for that laptop (usually has some kinda of a screen drawn on it). It should switch between displaying the image on internal screen, external screen or both at the same time.

One other thing if all else fails: I know you said the cable worked fine with other devices, but if it's possible to get another one, try it. It's the weirdest thing but I had a DP cable that seemed to work perfectly with my Dell monitor, but refused to identify and display a proper image on my BenQ. I though it was a fault in the monitor but it worked without a hitch when I bought a new cable. Perhaps some displays are more tolerant to faults in cables... not really sure.

Drivers were up to date and we did try the detect button in the display settings but it wouldn't detect anything other than the laptop display.

We also had identified the Fn + F3 (i think) combination which allows you to change between the settings you mentioned, but that didn't help at that point.

In the end he managed to solve the issue by trying another Hisense TV he had around which is absolutely identical to the original one, and it worked like a charm (?!?!?!). Problem is solved but it still boggles my mind, so i wouldn't mind if anyone wants to shed some light on the issue.

Thanks for the reply btw ^_^
