					 Posted: Mon, 24th Jun 2013 05:25    Post subject: [iOS/Android/Mac/Win] PPSSPP 0.8 Released |
					 |

					  |

						 	  | Quote: |

Here we go! 0.8, now available for Windows and Android*, brings you the following new features:

*Full video and audio playback in most games (audio requires an optional plugin)

*Huge increases in compatibility! Final Fantasy: Crisis Core is fully playable on fast devices, for example.

*Lots of little things like easy screenshot taking, the beginnings of a cheat feature, etc

Thanks to all the contributors making this possible! I want to call out unknownbrackets and oioitff for outstanding additions.

So get downloading! It may take Google Play some time to update to 0.8.

*For those of you on iOS and Blackberry, 0.8 builds will be available soon. We are still looking for a volunteer to maintain a Mac build.

This is absolutely phenomenal. The performance, usability and compatibility jump between 0.7 and 0.8 is off the friggin' charts and is now hands down the best PSP emulator out there. The PC version alone is fantastic, with gorgeous visual quality increases - just like PCSX2 - and, so far, perfect speed and overall performance. Phantasy Star Portable 2, for instance, is now as close to perfect as you're going to get -- whereas it was a mess on jpcsp. I've not had chance to try it on my iPad 2 yet and since my only non-Bluestacks/AndroVM device would be my wife's Galaxy Europa, there's been no point trying the Android build. Supposedly has enormous performance boosts across the board though. If I have one complaint it's that the audio sync is tied to framerate, so if the framerate fluctuates at all (such as during a scene change) audio can crackle a little bit. As long as you're running solid performance though; it's all good!

Strongly recommended!

~edit~

FFIV TCC still doesn't seem to like buffered rendering/anti-aliasing, the text disappears when those are enabled, but that's fine - pressing F5 fixes that

						Super cool, I wonder how it'll run on my iPad2 - probably badly. In which case, I might have to start using it on my iPhone 5...

						Wow, didn't even know a good emu existed!

Could someone more inclined to the PSP scene maybe post a list of the essential must-play games for the PSP?

I borrowed one years ago from a friend for... Patapon? But haven't otherwise followed PSP games at all...

						Does this read your PSP saves by chance? I have a few games I'd love to just "xfer" over to this. Thank you so much for the heads up though Sabin!

Really...? Where did you read this, hfric? The only source I can find that has ppsspp 0.8.54 is a Korean website called "Game Planet" - I can't find any sources about 0.8.54 otherwise and none that mention a huge speed increase. Here is the changelog;

 3f114f3 230ba9aMerge pull request #2350 from makotech222/cwcheatUICW

Cheat: Fix ini titles (again) and add an offset for God Eater Burst codes to work properly.

The ppsspp-GIT fork was also updated today, no mention of speed increase either.

PPSSPP Git Changelog:

* Merge pull request #2435 from lioncash/master

Add an extra null check to an if statement in CwCheat's function hleCheat.

* Simplify the previous commit's check a little bit.

* Add a check to an if-statement in CwCheat.cpp in function hleCheat.

Check if cheatEngine isn't null. Considering how the if-statement below it has this check, it should be placed in this one as well.

* Blackberry Buildfix.

* Update ffmpeg scripts for Symbian and CMake

* Merge pull request #2433 from lioncash/master

Fixed a resource leak in ControlMapping.cpp and a null check problem in MediaEngine.cpp

* Fix a case where a pointer was being used before its null check in MediaEngine.cpp

* Fix a resource leak in ControlMapping.cpp

* Merge pull request #2430 from unknownbrackets/lbn-fix

Parse sce_lbn more leniently, like the PSP does

* Parse sce_lbn more leniently, like the PSP does.

* Merge pull request #2423 from unknownbrackets/savedata

Fix some bugs in auto savedata modes, use structs

* Reload the savedata request if it changes.

This happens in "Where Is My Heart?", and if it's ignored the save is

created with the wrong name and cannot be loaded properly later.

* Use PSP memory directly in GETSIZES for savedata.

* Return a bind value in FILELIST, tweaks.

* Switch idList to use structs in savedata.

* Use the specified game/save name for SIZES.

It doesn't use the global one (not sure why...)

* Return error codes from SavedataParam::GetSizes().

Rather than true/false, makes things simpler.

* Switch SIZES savedata mode to using structs.

* For AUTOSAVE/MAKEDATA type modes, "" is valid.

Don't try to use the saveNameList in this case, use "".

* Linux buildfix.

* Update versions for Qt/Symbian/Blackberry

* Simplify vertex shaders a little more in the common case of directional lights.

* Merge pull request #2416 from unknownbrackets/fbo-minor

Centralize destruction of FBOs, use std::vector

						FF: Crisis Core is having some audio issues for me. During the CGI type cutscenes/cinematics, I get no sound. So the summons, and the intro, play, but there's no audio until it gets to the actual game sounds.

Anyone else try this yet? If so, does it work fine for you? Maybe I need a different .ISO or something.

Edit: Someone mentioned using a PS3 controller? Is that working out well?

Edit2: Oops, I just read Sabin's original post and it mentioned audio. Gonna give that a shot.

Edit3: The audio download fixed it up for me.

						tried it. as always with all post psx emulators, there just is way too many graphical issues, bugs, problems, and missing effects that probably will never get fully fixed. i'm disappointed in emulation ever since console games started using more and more advanced 3d techniques.

for example PCSX2 even today has same graphical glitches that i saw like 4-5 years ago so i lost all hope of ever seeing them fixed.

if you want to play psp games, you are far better off getting a real psp, they are dirt cheap, fully hacked, not only that but they also run all psx games.

						no mention of pursuit force? i loved that game, it was so much fun

its basically like the driving in just cause 2... drive, shoot, jump onto someone elses car, shoot them, steal their ride and keep on driving, i loved the hell out of it!

also, i remember REALLY enjoying vakyrie profile... this was back when i thought all rpgs sucked ass, so it was quite a big thing for me to enjoy an rpg.. getting a bit nostalgic actually... thanks for bringing this to my attention, i cant wait to play all these games again on a... more.. comfortable... setup

						@Interinactive : for full speed PSX emulator on iOS, use Retroarch by libretro, it runs games in native iOS resolution (no bilinear filtering though but yes, 1024x768 if you use a non retina iPad !) and most games run full speed on my iPad mini (=iPad 2 !).

I had tried PPSSPP on iPhone 5 back then, but that was old build, and it was mostly slow sadly, with the sound usually broken : Loco Rocco was like 15 fps for example.

Only game that was full speed was Saint Seiya Omega but the sound was kinda broken.

Need to test this version though.

Wipeout Pulse was 30fps (lame for Wipeout).
