http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-11-09-brendan-mcnamara-is-making-the-video-game-of-the-greatest-untold-story-of-the-20th-century

No publisher attached, yet. He's writing it. It'll "hopefully" use full body motion capture if I understood correctly. Details in the coming weeks, since he's hopeful a publisher will pick it up by then.

Quote:
Brendan McNamara, founder of now shuttered developer Team Bondi and writer and director of L.A. Noire, is making the video game of what he describes as "the greatest untold story of the 20th Century".

Speaking to Eurogamer at the Bradford Animation Festival 2011 in the University of Bradford, the controversial developer said he hopes to be able to talk about the game in a few weeks' time.

"It's pretty interesting," he said. "It's one of the great untold stories of the twentieth century. So I think it'll be good."

Team Bondi, which closed recently following the release of the Rockstar produced L.A. Noire, was an Australian developer based in Sydney.

The studio's reputation was irrevocably harmed amid allegations of unfair working practices, despite the critical success of L.A. Noire. Team Bondi's assets and most of the staff went to KMM, a production company set-up by Mad Max maker George Miller. Rockstar retained the L.A. Noire IP.

McNamara, however, is a free agent, and has spent his time writing a new video game - one that has a number of publishers interested.

"I learnt a tonne of things from doing L.A. Noire which will hopefully play into what we do next," he told Eurogamer.

"A lot of people who were working on L.A. Noire have gone across to KMM, some of them to be working on some of the film projects. A lot of the art and animation guys went across. Some of the people have gone to work in different Rockstar studios. I'm personally just writing some new stuff now, which I've been pitching around for the last couple of weeks. Hopefully I'll have something to announce on that pretty soon.

"There are a few people interested, yeah," he said. "I've still got to do the paperwork."

McNamara wouldn't go into detail on his next game, but did tell Eurogamer it is of a similar scale to L.A. Noire, in that it is a big budget console game.

"We think the evolution from The Getaway to L.A. Noire and learning the lessons we did on the way, and some of the stuff about emerging storytelling, is definitely an avenue to pursue."

L.A. Noire used MotionScan to recreate realistic character faces. It is a tech owned by Depth Analysis, an Australian company McNamara still has a vested interest in and, crucially, access to.

"I own some of the shares, and some other people own some of the shares. It's a limited company, and there are some other investors in that, too.

"Hopefully towards the end of that we'll have the full body stuff up and running. That could be pretty interesting, too."

I very much doubt any publisher is going to touch this at the moment. Not only due to McNamara's terrible rep in the industry, but also because it took them eight bloody years to make their last game... and were immediately sacked after its release. Hardly a stellar track record publishers are worth risking money on Laughing

I'm liking LA Noire and the idea behind this new project seems to be good so why not, hope they manage to find a (very brave) publisher soon.

It's called Whore of the Orient.

http://www.vg247.com/2011/11/28/report-l-a-noire-creators-next-game-is-whore-of-the-orient/

Quote:
In an article in the Financial Review, film maker George Miller revealed he has acquired the rights to the new project, titled Whore of the Orient. The phrase “whore of the Orient, Paris of the East” has been used to describe the city of Shanghai, the largest city in China.

According to co-founder Doug Mitchell, Kennedy Miller Mitchell Interactive is staffed by “not only the Krome team but Team Bondi’s last standing warriors”, snapped up when both studios shuttered.

The studio is a spin-off to long-time collaborators Mitchell and Miller’s film production company, Dr D Studios, which produced Happy Feet and is working on its sequel.

“Team Bondi immediately went to work on Happy Feet Two. People can move from a game to a movie and be completely at home, because it’s the same skills, process – the same game,” Miller said of the development staff’s recent activity.

All console games are capped.

inb4 "I was talking about PC". Team Bondi didn't make the PC version.

Why not ?

As a game dev, you won't find any publisher if your project is not :

- politically correct
- containing zombies
- being a damn FPS
- featuring social sharing elements
- free to play based with great expansive DLCs potential

Neutral

full body mo-cap alone will cost more than most games on kickstarter
this would have been a high-risk, high-budget game and currently its the wrong time for that it seems

well for once i will say they are right
Noir was a broken ass game with no LOSE situation , you could fuck up your investigation, get no stars ,and still progress and get a promotion to Vice/Arsen/etc Laughing now thats fucking RETARDED

and to add more RAGE on this title , one case was made so your FORCED to accuse a wrong person ... if you get all stars or no stars at all it did not matter , you still get the info that this person was innocent after few cases ... LA NOIR was A SCRIPTED adventure that had no lose situations with broken controls and awful inventory inspection screen ... the thing was it was build like a sandbox game thats why it failed in the mass market , people wanted MAFIA/GTA like game... not a scripted boring game that FORCED ON YOU the main aspect OF THIS GAME THAT was CONVERSATIONS and guessing from his face mimics if he/she told the truth [ if would been a fun game IF THOSE conversations mattered but if you could still win this game with zero star rating then all those things that made this game unique made you ask yourself "WHY??? I AM FORCE TO DO IT when I STILL WIN IF I FAIL ????"] ... same could been said about ALPHA PROTOCOL a RPG about spies that was build like a TPS , people buying it tough it was a shooter like MASS EFFECT but they got a RPG with a dice battle system , in it a head shot does not count as one if you use D20 RPG pen and paper RPG style rules

L.A. Noire's Team Bondi gets funding for its new crime-drama, Whore of the Orient.

Shortly after launching the critically acclaimed crime adventure L.A. Noire, developers Team Bondi succumbed to the game's tumultuous seven-year development cycle and shut down. However, Australian production firm KMM quickly snapped them up and set them back to work. Back in 2011, they announced their next game, entitled Whore of the Orient, but since then have been silent, except for the occasional layoff. After months of uncertainty, the team has secured $200k in funds from the Australian government to get it back on track.

Last August, Team Bondi revealed a bit more about its upcoming game and the odd title. Set in a 1936 Shanghai, the "Paris of the East", turmoil erupts as China deals with Western influences and new new political forces, while police try to keep the peace. While no details have been released on the actual gameplay, the single screenshot hints at a similarly gritty tone to the studio's previous works.

The funding comes courtesy of the Australian government's Screen NSW program, which funds creative and economic development in New South Wales. Intuitive Games also received money from Screen NSW, a new studio founded by two former Team Bondi developers after they were laid off.

Whore of the Orient is being published by Warner Bros. Interactive and will launch on PCs and next-generation consoles. No release date has been announced.

Highly doubt that would work out
