Well, the Romanian Constitution has just been modified so as to specify that atheists are not allowed to be in high government positions such as ministers, secretaries of state and presidents.
We're supposed to be heading forward, not backwards, bigoted zealots.

Funny thing is, I was baptized (is that the correct term? you know, a priest put me in some water and...cleansed my...sins?), but when I was about 10 my mom and dad told me they only did this so as to not face prosecution and be cut off from the family, and they told me I can choose whatever religion or belief I want, it should be my choice. That was 24 years ago. And we're heading backwards.

I should probably rectify, I was so pissed off at first, I read a bit into it. It has been vetoed to do so and modify the pledge taken by the president or any other member of the government, which before was specifically said that it may be taken without ending it with "so help me god" and say "I solemnly swear on my honor and conscience", and from now it will obligatory be ended with "so help me god".
Meanwhile, the article which specifies freedom of thought, conscience and religion has not been modified, allowing free thinking to any and everyone.
My fellow Romanians can attest when I say that the Church is a farce in Romania, and a blight, you guys should see their cars and houses. Not all of them are like this, obviously, but the number of priests which live in a suburb with an SUV far outnumber those that are honest.

The church here in Serbia is terrible. It's just a bunch of criminals. (with some exceptions of course)

Most of high-level popes in Serbia are agents inflitrated 30-40 years ago by communist secret police.

It does make sense, if you're willing to become a corrupt politician you need to know all the shady tricks of the trade, and who better than the church can teach you how to become a perfect debauched individual? xD
Seriously, this is so saddening. :< We don't have a specific law here but all the high-level politicians are both religious and close to the Vatican, not a suprise heh.

Sorry for the RO, we're simply telling the truth about this backwater shithole of a country.

I didn't think that in Europe you would have these kinds of problems too where the religious zealots somehow build their way towards very influential roles in the government.
Maybe here it's a little bit different though. Here there are quite many Rabbis who made lots of money through various "unknown" ways. They also drive SUVs and live like oligarchs.
They got open-office hours when they receive the poor and the sick, provide them with ridiculous blessings and suggestions (such as changing your name), and charge thousands of dollars from each as "donation".
Thankfully we still don't have any kind of this bullshit where you need to be religious to get into public roles.
Btw, doesn't this constitutional change goes against the EU rules or something like that?

Depends what you see as Europe, west Europe is like another planet compared to the backward East-Europe countries. And the west governments seem to be fine with the idiots running those places so sadly for the people there I don't see it changing soon.

Bah... I guess it's not that easy to de-attach from decades of corruption of the USSR era.

Why ? What do you really know about Romania ? How many Romanians friends do you have IRL ? How many visits did you make in Romania ? How much time did you spend in Romania, in person ?
