it looks nice there. i live in a valley too, but 'mine' is a bit bigger and the mountains a bit further away. the sea is on one side and a rainforest on the other. its hard to top the feeling that you could walk outside and not come back to civilization or people for as long as you want <3

Epic mountains, fabulous houses, double rainbows, breathtaking scenery, what can you ask more for Very Happy. Really beautiful...

Btw, yours mach1ne sounds pretty damn good as well. It's Canada after all <3

My place is calm and relaxing, but also quite dull since there's nothing attractive around except for some hills and typical medieval villages. It's far from everything, but definitely not as bad as it sounds Razz

do you guys really like the idea of living in the middle of nowhere?

I mean, it's nice for a vacation, but I would go nuts to live somewhere that rural everyday.

What middle of nowhere? This is a proper town, it's just built into the basin of a deep valley Smile Sure, it's not exactly a huge city - my hometown back in England has more people than this entire country, since it only has a population just shy of 6m.

so not a fan of living in london I take it? Razz

I'm pretty sure I'd have to live in Oslo if I came over that way Wink

Definitely not, as someone that has anxiety attacks around large groups of people - city living is most certainly not my preferred lifestyle choice Smile Give me a quiet little town any day. Tønsberg was nice like that too, large enough to have everything you could possibly want or need, yet small and cosy enough to not be overbearing.

~edit~

Oslo would be too big for my tastes.

just went for a walk and grabbed some shots. unfortunately postimage seems to have a size limit, so it wouldnt accept any of my panoramas...but to give you an idea, its about a 2 mile walk out of the woods before i can even see anything but a wall of trees in every direction.

here is a spot on the walk out where you can almost see the ocean through the trees

and heres a shot of the other side of the valley (opposite to the one i live on)

Looks exactly like Norway Surprised I was 90% sure it was from either Norway, Sweden or Finland.

A lot of places use the same type of wodden fences, and that barn is identical Surprised Always in red and white.

Tell me about it Sad I snapped a shot of Gaustatoppen a few weeks back, still had snow covering the peaks and it was late evening... still bright, gorgeous looking, and then the moon started floating passed the peak. It was absolutely gorgeous -- but the photo from a camphone couldn't handle the exposure properly and the brightness of the mountain blocked out the huge floating moon :/

A lot of Norwegians emigrated through the years, moving over to America and Canada, so it's really not surprising Very Happy

a lot of norwegian settlers came here in the late 1800s, so a lot of the oldest stuff (barns/churches/remains of settlements) around here is left over from them. i was camping in a very remote spot a few summers ago and i found a commemorative plaque detailing how some of them tried to settle in that area, and couldnt because its so unforgiving...but i was amazed they even found the place, let alone tried to settle there (and also that someone else took the time to commemorate it all with a big hand carved plaque).

edit - random update from the woods: a doe seems to have chosen my yard to have her fawn <3 i heard it crying and went to look and found mom being protective of a patch of trees out back. im pretty much positive there is a fawn in there <3 if i can get a pic i will, but i prefer to leave them alone. they are safe here, no need to make them feel otherwise.
