Yep, u need to block all of those 3 exe files, after that it will show u that it could not go online and u will press Play Offline and that's it. It's not quite simple as other game install's, but its Rockstar we're talking about

if you use the no-launcher fix (check GCW) no firewall rules are needed, just launch the fixed maxpayne3.exe and you're good.

finally got around to playing it, and finished it earlier today...
first, the good: technically, this game was amazing. it looked great, it played fantasticly, and it ran SWEET! it was always smooth with everything maxed, a real achievement for rockstar, i didnt think they had it in them.
the bad: this wasnt max payne. honestly, it felt like a completely different character. he was so unlikable, and i never found myself rooting for him, i never wanted him to triumph and win the day, all he ever did was piss me off, and his actions and thoughts and motivations pissed me off as well, i guess thats how i know it wasnt really the max i remember... and i didnt replay the first two games all that long ago (i think it was middle of last year).
it, surprisingly enough for me, wasnt even the SETTING that bothered me. I initially thought it would be a game-killer for me, but it was a minor annoyance, and while i MUCH preferred the flashback segments in the city, I could adapt to the new locales just fine. Apart from the occasional shitty rap music because of the 'ethnic location', i got used to all of it pretty quickly, even his bald headed hawaiian shirt look...
also, the story was utterly shitty, and actually pretty lazy... they could have done something interesting, and the only reason i didnt see the 'twist', was that my mind was being a bit too creative in who i thought was behind this
 Spoiler: | id actually dismissed the EVIL LOOKING MIDDLE BROTHER as the main bad guy, because it felt way too fucking obvious... i really thought it would have been clever (or atleast cleverER) for the youngest 'dumbass' brother to have been behind it, playing with fire by using the kidnappers and gangs in an ill-concieved money-grab that ended up blowing up in his face... that coulda been cool and certainly more interesting than just 'oh btw, the evil looking brother is actually behind it all'. LA-ZY. |
so yeah... a real pity such a fantastic gameplay experience was so marred by poor characters and story.
great game, but a shitty max payne game. what a pity 
I REALLY want alan wake 2, but i also want remedy to come back and fix what rockstar broke in mp3 
Seems that all rockstar knew about max payne was that he was a tortured character (but didn't know why or how to portray it), and that the game needed gun violence and blood.... and in their haste to shove that into a game, they forgot about the heart and soul of the franchise....
only reason i made it through was because of that fucking KICKASS gameplay. I would so love to see remedy make a max payne game (a proper one) with this engine.

I purchased this off CDdiski when it came out but the key doesn't work on steam and the game seems to be completely removed off usenet (astraweb), I'm currently d/lin via torrents but its really slow, are there any other places I can download the game from ?.

That's not true, there are some cutscenes that you cannot skip at all, the game doesn't even load at the time, which is proven by another cutscene during which the game loads within 5-10 seconds.
Hell, you can even choose the chapter you're going to play, and if you select the 2nd checkpoint (which is usually after the unskippable cutscene) the game loads almost instantly.

Fair enough, my bad, i haven't played the game since its release so i didn't remember the little details of all the cut scenes, just a few that i did remember that i was able to skip after its fake loading ended lol.

I played and finished this the year it was released I believe. I liked it very much. The gameplay is more or less the good old gameplay of the classic MP games.
But I didn't like much the setting and writing. I still enjoyed the game very much but it sort of felt "not Max Payne".
I am replaying this and I guess since I know what to expect this time I'm having a total blast. I like all aspects of the game including the setting and the writing and it definitely feels like a MP game to me now. I even like the stadium level where in my first playthrough I was like "ehhhh.. really now.."
One of the best "cinematic" games I have played and a worthy sequel to one of my favorite game series.

Crap-ish multiplayer though but yeah, enjoyable sp, finished it twice too. although not one of my favorite series.. that would be f.e.a.r. xD

There's no point for these games to have multiplayer. I tried to play yesterday just to see how it is and of course no one was playing. You have to buy the game and play it in the first month or something before people get back to Counter-strike.

Finished SP and just gave MP another try.
It must had been the mode I had chosen the previous time that I found no players because this time I found many players and the (death)match began almost in an instant! This is very surprising to me that people are still playing this! It's almost 3 years old and a primarily SP title..
Anyway I doubt I will bother too much with the MP

I liked James McCaffrey best as Max, but Timothy Gibbs was good as well. Sam Lake looks like a constipated asshole, and that's fine, he is not an actor, or at all looking the part. He was used because there was no money for a real actor.

The talking was always wild. His thoughts it made the story harder deeper more manly just fucking better. The shooting scenes though were too much sometimes fucking fucking nonstop fucking.

Such a joke does not fit the over dramatic / melodramatic style of the game. The only comedic reliefs were television shows.
The change to Gibbs and the orchestral theme + score in MP2 gave it a much more serious feel.
