U know, I dont understand how ppl can play MMORPG's for such long ass periods of time...dont get me wrong, ive had my 8 hour runs on UO and the Matrix, but after a while shit gets boring as either ur good enough to do everything in the game, or it'll take another 8 hours to lvl up so i put it it down.
Seriously, if u played continuously for a month, even on WoW, what the fuck would be left to do? Ur character is Gm'ed (Grandmastered/Best it can be), u know most of the lil secrets, u have sick armour/items or whatever etc
If anyone can explain to me what there is left to do after say playing UO or WoW for say 10 hours a day for a month, please do....cuz I cant figure that shit out.
And how would u be able to ignore 4 kids?! Fuck, when i babysit my 9 year old niece, and im doing shit on the computer, if she comes up to me to tell me she needs me to get something she cant reach or cook a meal or something like that, even if i ignore her, she'll just stand there and bitch, complain and whine - drives me fuckin nuts so i just go do it ya know? then she leaves me alone till she needs something else or me to put her to bed.
How the hell could u have 4 kids doing that to u and not care to the extent those 2 ppl did....confuses the shit outta me, and disgusts me.

Thats very true Mac...just like Columbine (spelling?). They blamed it on Manson and Doom...so pretty much everyone I know is a serial/fucked up killer type of person. each of my friends either listen to manson or played nuff doom back in the day...ppl should take responsibility for their own actions still.
And I dont think Skid was being serious, if he was, maybe we all should give him a quick slap?  |

in wow what keeps ppl playing really is you need all epic/class specific items... you need to get all the quests done for the instances to for example be able to enter molten core... and las but not least... the most time consuming thing is the rank... probably takes you months of playing at least 4 hours every day to get to rank 13/14... and that is just sick... and remember... you can always pull up a twink if your main char is too boring at that moment... its stupid and a waste of time... i did it... almost wasted 5 months of my life on this shit... didnt care bout the flat nor my girlfriend... and what do i have now? a char thats not even unique... i guess probably 1000 other ppl run around all realms the same as me.... even on my server at least 20 ppl looked exactly like me..... hilarious... well... im away from it now... dont even check in to transmute undeath->water->air.....

Makes a lil more sense but still. If I know its gunna take me such a long time to achieve a goal, I'll pace myself ya know? couple hours here, couple of hours there etc
Like this guy I play with on The Matrix. He started the sametime as me, but he's like lvl 35 and Im 17. He's always on and he said for the first week, he played like 12 hours a day and shit, hence his high lvl. What i dont understand is exactly what u pointed out. Its not like when u get to the highest lvl ur unique and shit like that, ur just one of the bunch, so why bother putting that much effort and time into it? And plus, I barely play UO now cuz I have pretty much all the best type of characters maxed out and they cant get any better. All I can do is pvp/pk or do some of the ingame, company run events (and there are very few of em)...waste of time and fun to make ur character the best in such a short period of time, imo |

the big problem is... you need to play to be able to play... like... when you dont lvl up fast all the ppl you played with are not available for the quests you need to do anymore... and the "enemy" is growing stronger in pvp... and you have so many goals... like becoming 40 to buy a mount... thats a big goal... and you wanna reach it fast... and the "story" of wow... like... when you accept quests or whatever... isnt really good... most of the time its just killing a specific amount of mobs or getting items or whatever... its more like work than fun... that really bothered me too... i had rank 7 in pvp... and every rank is getting harder to accomplish.... and the fastest way is to play 1 battleground... alterac.... and you would have to play it like 4 hours a day for several months to get to rank 14... thats crazy... playing the same thing again and again... and then theres the queues for the battlegrounds... there were times when i waited like 3, 4, 5 or more hours to join a battleground... can you imagine that? this is total bullshit... well... i learned my lesson... i will not play mmorpgs anymore... im goin back to either single player games which i can complete in a few days/weeks when playing less than 2 hours a day or multiplayer games that give me some fast fun... like fps games... join a game... shoot some ppl... and go back to RL... life shouldnt be a short distraction from a game... a game should be a short distraction from life...
ps: yeh i know... i hate myself for those big blocks of bad english and nonexistent proper punctuation... but im just a lazy bastard

the reason most people still play on my mmo (final fantasy 11) is well the game doesn't end at all theres no final quest theres no way to end it they just add more to it theres a final rank of like 10 or 12 or something but thats takes a year or so of hardcore gaming and dedication the highest level is i think 99 and that take FOREVER cause you have level cap quests starting at 50 and those take a day to do the harder ones take two and you don't even get a sub-job/class till 18 which takes like 5 days of seriouse gaming ff11 is just endless gaming and the graphics look awesome too which is a bonus
 a nice lil screen of it (ps2 version)

For some my friends still playing WoW since it was released in November 04, it's a social thing. They just meet up and go for raids, searching for some epic item they don't really care about. It's more just hanging out with friends.
I personally don't play MMO's (having tried shitloads of them, even have WoW), they just don't seem to have much meaningful content and theres not alot of player skill involved (imo). But I can get why people play them.

Thats exactly my stance. They don't appeal to me at all. I prefer single player RPG's. Mostly what I play online are RTS's, but sometimes I like to play FPS's.

Its true that blaming the game companies is retarded cause we are the one playing them but on the other hand, MMORPG are a fuckin plague. I know a guy who explained to me that the reason why he was so addicted to WoW is because since he is paying every month, he feel the obligation to play.
I know a lot of people who ruined their life and/or relationship cause of games like that. If i looked at all my friends who play games, its always the ones who are playing games like WoW or Everquest who lost their jobs, got kicked out of school, cant stay in a relationship more than a month cause teh chick left...none of this happen to my other friends, just like me, who play games like CSS, BF2, Call of Duty and other NORMAL online games that doesnt fuck up your head.

It all depends on the person man. I play 2 MMORPG's, and i have never lost a job, friend or girl over it. I play Matrix Online and Ultima Online btw.
Obviously, some ppl use MMORPG's as a way to escape whatever may be bothering them (perhaps social problems). |
