A dead game is a game that is no longer available to play or download. That is what DF1 is now, regardless of any "upgrade" that AV did.
If DF1 was alive we would have a separate server for it.

AV is a joke and simply break more than they fix. I wouldn't expect anything more from a company that is situated in a country that has gone bankrupt. They're out for a quick buck, while having significantly less content than the first.
Everyone was a mage you say? Yeah, that was the only problem. At least the combat was fluid, no rollbacks ever happened, all dungeons and spells and classes were in from the start, and mahirims were fucking WOLVES not people. Race wars and alignment systems were actually features, now we get a beta with everything stripped to make way for "classes". What a joke.

man you could atleast have googled before looking like a
dfuw is fuckin df1, and is why df1 servers was brought down, they wanted a big ui upgrade and overhaul the skill system, it wasnt even certain they would wipe characters to begin with.
and yes the population sank at the end CAUSE EVERYONE WAS EAGERLY AWAITING DFUW and its pretty pointless playing when you dont know if your char will be wiped or not basicly my whole clan went on a break, still paying for the damn thing and so did many others with us as it was an alliance decision

Seen plenty of rage quitters as its not a game a fair few I admit are used to, full loot on death is not common in mmo's these days.. The whining alone IN GAME is enough to show these people have gone straight back to the forums to complain about how it is.. Because they did not really pay attention or read anything about it to an extent...
If you look on the DF subscription forum threads (if you do have an account that is) you will see the most fucked up requests ever for this game for anyone that knows what this game is about mechanics wise. From wanting hand holding feat progress and quest markers and all sorts of stupid shit we get today in a themepark...

Gladly Ub3rgames, created by two big fans of the original game decided that Darkfall shouldn’t end up like this and thus begun the quest of reviving a once loved RPG title that was soon to be forgotten. The result is Darkfall: New Dawn has now a first reveal trailer and a release date.
Darkfall: New Dawn is set for release on January 26, 2018, and the game server will be located in Europe when the game launches. Ub3rgames seems to be extremely devoted to the title, with its official page being full of information, dev blog posts and heartfelt messages from the creators. Specifically, they revealed that they wanted Darkfall to get back online and were continuously working on giving this loved MMORPG the place it deserved:
