You'd die.

But that wouldn't work really well with the current gaming market.
(Having to run away, hide, search for food and equipment - which you do in the actual game but only in a very basic way.)

Wonder what sort of games could be created if there weren't such a high pressure on sales.
(Oh right, Kickstarter kinda shows a part of that but the money from such investments isn't that much compared to a AAA budget dev studio.)

EDIT: The game did OK anyways though I wonder how it will continue from here.
(Lara raids some jungle temple and kills hordes of crazy tribals and predator animals in search for the ultimate artifact, ha ha.)

EDIT: If it will continue, I suppose so but the whole thing with the high sales expectations and the revenue loss the publisher took could be troubling.

What you mean, she is a fragile woman that under extraordinary circumstances becomes rambo in 10 minutes. That's brilliant. And bad ass.

Current state of gaming industry I got better things to do in life than to sit and count the number of the enemy Lara kills and then judge if its real or not. Or to take gaming-related insults seriously from hypocrites on this forum.

Realism is only important when a game pretends to be realistic... which this game was marketed as to some degree at least. When a game is less pretentious, it's fine when you kill hundreds of people on your own, because the game doesn't take itself as serious as Tomb Raider does.

Exactly. If Serious Sam was marketed as a fragile dude that had never fired a weapon before and was dropped into danger, people would question the realism. If they want Lara to kill hundreds of soldiers, don't market her as a fragile, innocent girl. Same goes with the chinese fighting movies: as long as they don't market realism as part of the movie, nobody cares about the impossible odds.

Well games like movies, are enjoyed on so many levels - Some might play the game for the graphics like a moviegoer might see the next derpish transformer film only for the CGI. Others prefer the narrative and how it unfolds in conjunction with the rules of both cinema and games. Fact is, you can't please anyone and especially not the nichรฉ crowd in big productions as Tomb Raider.

And why roll eyes on the current state of gaming? I'm thrilled to be in this day 'n age where we actually see original ideas which can be sustained by fans contributions (Kickstarter) and their selections (Steam Greenlight). Sure, we still have a new Call of Duty coming out, sure we see EA buttfucking SimCity players and yes Bethesda is still making "derpified" Fallout titles but if there is something this industry has shown, in the last 2 years is that there are room for both the mass segmented titles and the nichรฉ titles.

EDIT: Sure, Tomb Raider marketed itself as a "survival title" and hence the realism should be a part of the title, but c'mon did you really expect that from Square Enix?

I roll my eyes, because unlike some people who say "fuck graphics" and play some 2D games, I do enjoy all aspects of games. I do think good graphics are important and enhance good games. What you basically say is "you have kickstarter so go play that low budget shit for 'gameplay'". I lament the fact that 10 years ago the "big productions" were actually targeting a much smarter and more intelligent audience. And because of bullshit like "well it's a game, duh, of course there is no story" is why we got here. It is a similar story with films. There are college flicks that attempt more interesting topics, but they are executed with such low budgets and such horrible acting and direction, that the whole thing becomes a laughable parody.

I think Nfohump should just start making their own games. Games would focus only to realism.

Survival: You would be on island like lara is, you would die in the start, so the game would be 5 minutes long.

FPS games: Would be like original Wolfenstein (without Nazis ofc, because they are not anymore real) , but you could carry only 2 guns, also not a single cinematic moment.

Racing games: So realistic, that average console bro could not even start the car.

etc... Laughing

Ok i stopped reading.. i missed that marketing class and damn.. i really wanted to hear how "this time around we REAAALLLLYYY REAALLY tried to x and y".. i guess that stuff was vital for me to understand the game so thats why i dont get it

No. Its because of bullshit like "we're making an AAA game so it has to look and feel realistic". Good gfx doesnt make up for poor gameplay (Crysis 3?) and an interesting story not backed up by gameplay only gets you so far

I would agree that this game has very good graphics and alright gameplay. Alright, in the sense, that suddenly Lara is not a mechanical robot. But this only takes the game so far. They want this story to be taken seriously. This is supposedly not a run and gun game. Their words, and one hour in, Lara turns from poor "ooh aaah ooooh aah uuuh oooh oooh" girl into Rambo with the flick of a finger. Without a coherent story, everything falls apart, regardless of how good the graphics are.

About realism, what the fuck you talking about? Is Skyrim realistic? BioShock realistic? Prince of Persia realistic? Realism is only mentioned in relation to this game because the story is supposed to take a realistic Lara and put her in some supposedly extraordinary circumstances. But how that is executed is ridiculous. Durrzer_ tried to troll by saying "she dies in 5 minutes." No. She needs to hide to survive. She needs to hunt in order to survive. She needs to traverse landscape in order to escape violent encounters. That's how I'd attempt my survival on such an island.
But no. She must go through a linear path where hardened killers who have done just that for 20 years await in one place for a poor weak Lara to arrive and start shooting them and kill them like pro while she has never shot a gun up to that point. Laughing Give me fucking break.

My point was that.. with that kind of judgement you can demolish any game whatsoever and i dont think this one deserves it. Yes i get that mentality where being less of a turd doesnt make it good except you're over doing it in the wrong place. I also feel a very strong urge to spam crysis forums all over the internet with my OH so important opinions about it yet its really not worth it

The Crysis series is one of the biggest examples that graphics don't make the game. They mediocre at best (Crysis 1) to garbage (Crysis 2). Not sure what you trying to prove, when everyone knows Crysis games are not good games.
And you should never shy away from telling your opinion.

Who the fuck cares about graphics if the game is retarded? Are you people actually read why I write? Graphics are only important and enhance when the rest of the game is actually good.

And speaking of graphics, tech and shaders don't make the graphics. Art direction does. And the Crysis series have some of the most boring art direction.
