No surprise that eats FPS, looking back the one from Alice was better than time one miles away, and worked just fine on DX9, but meh, marketing. |
I agree. The hair in Alice 2 looked just as good but didn't have anywhere near the performance hit.

Finished the game today. One of the best games I've played this entire late '12 early '13 release season. Great graphics, above average gameplay, and an interesting plot.
They really paid attention to the details making this game, and that is what makes it so good. Has zero replay value, but it's just such a good game that I can accept that.
All the haters hating this game because it isn't classic tomb raider are categorically writing off an outstanding game for childish reasons IMO.

Personally I am hating it for being a bad game, period.

It took me a lot of time as always but eventually managed to finish watching this mov..err playing this re-boo. A very difficult beast to judge, since while it's true that it's a "well-packed" game, it's also true that there's so much hand-holding, non-gameplay, linearity, QTE-madness and viscerality that even a decently trained monkey could actually play the game.
The complete lack of mental challenge and excessive focus on Gears of Whoring with a semi-invulnerable protagonist and bro-enemies were the biggest problems for me, especially when taking into account that it's called Tomb Raider.
The young Lara got clearly affected by the ancient spirit of the Derp, she loves the pewpew and hates tombs.. and it shows, except for them pretteh shiny things <gasp of awe>
Unfortunately the story and characters were quite forgettable as well (and this is probably the only thing the this reboo has in common with the old TR games). All in all, if I try to forget the fact that it's Tomb Raider, I'd give it a generous 6,5 (otherwise my score would easily be stuck on the mediocrity treadmill).

New patch out through Steam
Spoiler: | We have just made public a new version of the PC version of Tomb Raider, build 1.0.730.0. This patch will be applied by Steam automatically when you next start the game. If your game does not update, please restart the Steam client.
New fixes in 730.0:
• Upgraded the save slots from three to 99
• Introduced “Last Campsite Save”, which automatically saves your progress up to the last campsite you have visited
• Added stereoscopic 3D reticle
• Fixed issues with the discovery of the Unworthy campsite.
• Fixed a problem that occurred when traveling back to the Sacred Hall Basecamp after that story has been completed
• Fixed a playthrough stopper in Chasm Bridge
• Fixed a playthrough stopper that could occur when loading a saved game created in the Coastal Forest after upgrading the axe but before opening the gate
• The active selection in the main menu no longer changes due to the rotation of the menu itself
• Fixed Mouse and Aim Sensitivity slider settings getting rounded to coarser values on save
• Fixed a crash in multiplayer that could occur while migrating hosts
• Added functionality to activate and deactivate DLC multiplayer maps during matchmaking. Maps can also be manually activated and deactivated in the new ‘Match Making’ menu in the ‘Options’ menu.
• (DX11) Fixed a few self-shadowing artifacts in the beach
• (DX11) Various performance optimizations
• (DX11) Improved sunlight shadow quality
• (DX11) Lens flares now render correctly in stereoscopic 3D
• (DX11) Improved exclusive fullscreen <-> windowed transitions
• (DX11) Fixed occasional crash on startup related to stereoscopic detection
While we expect this patch to be an improvement for everyone, if you do have trouble with this patch and prefer to stay on the old version we made a Beta available on Steam, Build722.3, that can be used to switch back to the previous version. Please note however that you can only play multiplayer with people that share your version.
We are planning further patches beyond this one to address various issues that have come out of consumer feedback since the release of the game. |

This new patch fixes Lara's broken shoulders when wading through the water and the ability to have 99 saves is nice. Now I wish I kept backups of a lot of my earlier progress so that way I could just jump to a certain section to replay.

// rant begin
I always find it interesting how people who totally disliked the game tend to remain in the game thread for the next few weeks, constantly replying to anything anyone else posts negatively and mentioning how they disliked the game.
If you didn't like it, then why even stay in the thread? I just don't understand. Why do you feel the need to constantly assert your opinion?
I mean in this thread, and various other threads with games with mixed reception, whenever you try to post a piece of news (e.g. patch news, or my post on writer interview) there's gonna be a retard replying how the game was derp, annoying, bad, etc. And they're not retards because they post it once, because you should be free to dislike the game, but he is one for doing that on nearly every single page.
If someone likes a game I don't like, first off I don't even visit the thread of that game. Second, if I did visit the thread, I understand the person has a different taste and I respect that. And third, if I had to disagree with him I would attempt to list rational arguments why I think something is bad instead of posting retarded emoticons, bad puns and derp comments.
Some people actually visit the thread because they would like some useful information, instead of listening to same few people constantly ranting how the disliked it.

Prolly because of the great sales, right?! This is like the third or fourth year of SE posting a negative balance. So i guess that with one or two exceptions (Sleeping Dogs and DXHR), Square didn't do that hot (DS3, HA and TR).
Not to mention that the Final Fantasy series sales greatly declined in the last five years.
One thing: if this game wouldn't have been a TR title, probably many people would have accepted it and give it at least a 6.5. But it bears the TR name and it has little to do with one of the most crucial aspect of the series: tomb raiding.

Wow. That corpo-law talk in the report.
But it seems that the major loss is due to poor management decisions and restructurization that took place in their fiscal year.

Calling this game derpy because of survival instinct? Simple... don't use it. No one is telling you to push the button. Makes the game funner

IMO nothing worthy apart the (small) extra tomb if you didn't get it with the preorder.

For anyone who has played Uncharted, does this accurately describe the game? I still haven't checked it out (need longer days to fit in everything I want to do ) and I'm still not sure whether I should either. If it's like Uncharted (impossible to fuck up the "platforming", immersive and visceral QTEs everywhere there may have been some interesting combat), I'll skip it
And before anyone even starts: if you like it but it's like I described above, that's fine, but it's not for me. I want to play a game, not "play" a "film". I don't give a single shit how good the story or presentation is if there's hardly any gameplay. Gameplay first, rest comes after.
