Hobby and competition. Most of the crackers don't even care for the games themselves. They only do it so they can beat the protection. So they can say "We are RLD and we cracked the most advanced DRM to date. We're the shit!". Plus, the majority of them doesn't care what the public (the users of their releases) thinks of them. |
I thought the same but this part of their last NFO is a bit strange
Quote: | Note: This release is meant for our sites, its ops and users, and those who
request it. We've labeled it internal because the DRM is bypassed using a
loader. The game works, but it's not how we would usually release a crack. |

consolitis wrote: | I think the narrative/plot in this one is alright. I'm not talking about the general idea (nanodome lolwut, etc), but so far the dialog etc, flows much much better than in C2. It's average, but average of the okay to good kind. It also feels more human.
And since some people have a hard time seeing some of the upgrades they made to their engine, here's what I noticed with my reduced quality config:
- Way faster booting and loading times. Like cut in half or more.
- In C2, after the end of every mission, a "here's where you have to go" video was playing, in the style MW1 introduced, but the game wasn't simultaneously loading in the background. So you had to watch the video (or skip it) and then you had to wait for the game to loooooad. This obviously wasn't what they intended, God knows what happened and they had to make it like this. In C3, while the video is playing the game loads in the background (and it loads MUCH faster as well, as I already said).
- Redone particles for explosions and shit.
- Water caustics. Soooo sweet. Is there even any other game that has this? (Come to think of it Dear Esther does, and it looks good! but not nearly as dynamic and awesome of course )
- Whole new facial animation tech. Amazing detail in the faces, and pretty good animated. Huge upgrade compared to C2, where I thought they were actually a downgrade from C1, while perhaps C3 is the industry leader right now.
- Dense grass, like in no other game.
- The AI does not get stuck as much as it did in C2. Not that it's great, but C2 shipped with terrible AI bugs that never got fixed.
- Lens flares, chromatic aberration and other stuff of that type.
- The latest in AA techniques in place of 1) their own temporal AA and 2) very old FXAA version they used in C2.
Of course there are other upgrades too, but because of the different environments etc, you can't directly compare them. |
There's screen-space reflections as well, you probably won't see them unless you use the V.High preset or enable them manually though.
(Those real-time reflections from water, can bug a bit but it's still pretty impressive, has four different display modes as well.)
(Or the pixel accurate displacement mapping also only used on V.High)
(Particle and shadow tessellation, plus water and other stuff, though there's a lot of parallax mapping used and some things like most bricks only use basic normal mapping this time.)
SSDO over SSAO
(Also only used on V.High, two different modes with mode 2 - which is the more dmeanding one - being used by default.)
(SMAA 2x and 4x plus TXAA support though it's not as impressive as the above, heh.)
EDIT: This thread moves fast..

Since my more powerful desktop is having DX10.1 card, I'm playing Crysis on laptop with mobile GT540M, that is DX11.
Getting stable 25-30fps on 1366x768 with High textures, FXAA and Low System Specs.

This game isn't Crysis, it's DXHR-lite. Seriously If they told me it's a DX(HR) spin off I'd believe it!
I can't believe how different all three games in the series play! So far I find this new approach very fun!

Really good looking game and it runs smooth with high settings - but is it fun? well...not my cup of tea really. But its worth playing just to see the impressive graphics.

This looks like this game I played in 2007. Can't quite remember what it's called but it had less blur, bloom, lensflare and other shiny nonsense. And better FoV. At least both have bad optimization in common.

Cloaking-decloaking all the time to move around
Taking them down silently
Upgrading myself with the right stealth enhancing abilities by collecting upgrade notes hidden in the levels (you have to explore!) (yet another similarity to DXHR, and different than in C2, where the upgrading was being done by killing aliens. This time the game has been redesigned for a stealth > action approach)
Hacking turrets and keypads!
Going through vents. wut
3/4 environments I've been through have been industrial complexes or what-to-call-them like we've seen in MGS/DXHR, not jungles or cities like in C1&2. I'm not even sure why Crytek were saying "well, you're in NY again..", I mean immediately we thought "yawnnn, $60 for more of the same?", but so far in the game they haven't reused C2's environments.. they are completely new!
and more
I don't know about the game's length, but in its design and environments there have been enough changes made to be safe to call it a new game instead of expansion/DLC as many feared. Yeah, the weapons are the same, but who cares if I only use my bow? That's new!
I think it's a very solid game and it easily outdoes C2 in everything. Given that Prophet and Psycho are back and the game treats Alcatraz like he almost ceased to exist after C2's intro and whoquarezabouthim, and so far Gould and Strickland haven't made an appearance, you'd be hard pressed to understand why they gave us the impression this is Crysis 2.5
