Why not, RE6 worked great for them, didn't it? Laughing

Weeeeeell that's how they screwed up the last few games, so no Capcom, stop doing that

If it's going to go open world with a reboot, there is absolutely no need to call it Resident Evil anymore

I find RE4 incredibly accessible and fun. Then again I don't consider it "Resident Evil". But I've come to accept it, it's the new benchmark for RE.

Arrow

It's funny but we are at the point where people are saying "Capcom must do the next game like the old RE" and they mean RE4. They either haven't played the old ones, or consider them truly dated.

Quote:
"Once we see Revelations released on consoles, we'll be looking very carefully at how the title is received and what feedback we get," he said. "I think we'll get a lot of input from the fanbase and the media on what it means for Resident Evil, and what it could mean for the future of the series. We'll definitely be looking at that as a signpost for where we need to be going next."

This is interesting.

Right. I agree survival horror doesn't necessarily mean tank controls etc.

This game was as close you could get RE1 in the style of play of today. It did return to the roots in more then one way which made me have such a high hopes for RE6...which turned out to be a disaster.

Revelation is not perfect by any means, but it at least have some of the old survivor horror feelings. The ship works in more then one way as a substitute to the manor in RE1. I do think it beats RE5 and RE6 by a long shoot. Glad to see it on other platforms with better gfx Smile

I guess it's really the best that we can have today. Razz Gamers always want full and direct control (hence the 3rd person view) and the short attention span plays a huge role in how the maps/gameplay are structured (no back-tracking, adventure elements almost disappeared).

The traditional survival horror genre as we know it sadly is definitively dead and buried (if we exclude rare exceptions like Amnesia), since it requires a certain amount of patience and dedication that seem lost nowadays. I would take a RE4 clone over a RE6/Raccon City any day of course, but still..

Agreed. Just look at Dead Space 1. It had fast TPS controls but still managed to be an atmospheric horror game. I wish Capcom would learn from DS1 Crying or Very sad

Quote:
Is Revelations a direct port of the 3DS version?

It’s definitely not just a direct port. Not only have we improved the graphics up to HD standard for home consoles and designed it for 5.1 Surround Sound as well but we’ve fine tuned and retuned the gameplay, made a lot of nips and tucks here and there, so it’s certainly an improved experience.

Everything Went Better Than Expected

Quote:
Newer Resident Evil fans will likely have been introduced to the series with Resident Evil 5 and 6. How will they find Revelations in comparison?

I think players who started off with those titles, depending on what they wanted from 5 and 6 in the first place, they’ll have a different experience with Revelations. If they’re players who wanted to massacre enemies by the dozen, then that’s not something they’re going to be able to experience in Revelations so they may feel a bit disappointed with it.

I think what Revelations has in common with recent Resident Evil games is they’re all about characters who are in extreme survival situations trying to do what they can to stay alive and get out of the other side in one piece. As that’s happening, the storyline is evolving and the storylines are all interconnected, so I hope for most players they’ll find that a very enjoyable experience.

Failed Troll Preorder cancelled.

Damn, calling the people introduced to the series with Resident Evil 5/6 "Resident Evil fans" is almost insulting to the real fans Razz. At least mother Capcom is (slowly) starting to realize that changing the genre wasn't such a great move (or maybe not, inb4 RE7 even more spectacular and bay-ish after Revelations's future bad sales Okay Laughing)

New release (left) has better quality textures (models too right?), I think more refined lighting, and a different FoV.

The random enemy placement sounds kind of cool. It will make replays a little more enjoyable.

Can't believe people call this "classic" resident evil after viewing gameplay videos. It's fucking RE5/6 all over again except in crammed spaces because of the weak 3DS

Is there forced co-op in the game? No.

I don't know how close it is to a classic RE, but it's definitely not RE5/6 as you say, if the game isn't designed for coop.

Pretty interesting:

Quote:
Its been confirmed that all enemies and items will be randomized during each playthrough to maximize replayability.

This seems like not just a good idea to maxmize game time, but a good way to maximize scares and tension.

Played this on the 3ds, the puzzles are definitely on the weak side in this game (ie: easy) but elements remain from the original games. Including the outdated awkward control schemes and having the player running back and forth revisiting previously explored areas. (love it or loathe it). The game looks fantastic on the 3ds and running in 3d is an unnecessary novelty but it worked and looked nice on the handheld. Found the game somewhat a mixture of the original and the more recent games. Enjoyed it though and will be nice to see this on the PC.
