What a disappointment. The lack of interaction with the environment, ooooooh wow you can open doors and unweld them! The graphics were mediocre and the story was ok.
This game had a lot of potential, its too bad they made it pretty crappy.
Can you only use unlocked weapons in co-op or MP? Because for the life of my I couldn't figure out to change my weapon load out lol!
I'm glad I decided not to buy this game. It should be $20 not $50!
You can switch from the moment you start the game - but you won't have much until you rank up and start getting other weapons and their attachments - but once you unlock more attachments and such it might be more relevant.
(I use the combat shotgun - full auto mod will soon the unlocked - and battle rifle - similarly a better burst mode will be unlocked soon - mostly when compared to the other stuff but any of the weapons work, other than the pistol which is pretty crap.)
Can't customize those "Legendary" weapon pick-ups though but they are usually pretty good, also you can't customize extra weapons like the flamethrower or smart-gun.
(And finally character customizations - and alien morphs - only work in MP.)
Gearbox Software has revealed details of the day one patch for Aliens: Colonial Marines, which in all probability you've already downloaded. It fixes a multitude of in-game sins, including intangible welded doors, messed up Lurker encounters, a host of collision issues and general performance problems.
We're not entirely sure whether the patch will change the fact the game is apparently not very good though. As we write this, Lee B is feverishly hammering away at his computer's keys, thrashing out his Aliens: Colonial Marines review.
Stay tuned for that. For now though, why not entertain yourself with the exhaustive list of patch notes below:

Looks like they changed their proprietary renderer.

I didn't know that "demo" was what was given to game journalists, they actually got to PLAY it how it was supposed to be to do the previews and hype everyone up. This makes Gearbox even DOUCHIER
They made a mistake with the demo/final tags later in the video so they used youtube popups to correct them.
Is that "demo" leaked anywhere? It looks WAY more better.
It's like they released a wrong game

If the rumor on Reddit is actually true, I wouldn't be surprised if Gearbox themselves made that demo. It looks alot more like their work than the actual campaign does.

Seems pretty far fetched to believe gearbox remade a portion of the game identically to the other guys. I mean it is identical except for stuff like lightning, fog, some effects and other stuff.
If Gearbox did the early version back then and later gave that work away to the other company to finish when outsourcing then maybe they scaled it down to work better in terms of performance and kept even the PC version as such?
As I said it looks like they replaced their renderer. Gearbox said like a year ago when they were showing the game that the engine is UE3 + a brand new renderer they wrote with fully dynamic lighting/shadows. I haven't played the game, but I think this didn't make the cut.
So what you see in the video is that the final game has the lighting of the standard UE3 renderer instead of their own fully dynamic tech that was in the early demo.

Maybe it was partly because it went over the PS3 memory limit as the supposed developer claimed and was consequently toned down, shafting every other version in the process as usual.
Zoner found a way of doing it. On Xbox 360 and PS3, we get about 90% of the way there. It obviously looks a lot better when you're playing it on PC, but it turns out the consoles are powerful enough, and all the software's optimal enough because we're so late in the life cycle, to where he found a way and we're fucking doing it.
"It's pretty exciting for us. When you hear some of the big guys talk about their next generation lighting, you're going to hear about deferred rendering a lot. It's very possible that Aliens: Colonial Marines is the first commercial product to ship with deferred lighting."

I'm talking about the whole sequence and how it's made. Looks alot more like the Gearbox that knows how to add and handle scripted events very well and in the right places like they did with OpFor back then. It just looks alot more like their handywork. They just took the levels and scenery and filled it with their handwriting. With stuff that makes alot more sense in an Aliens game.
And the actual game is so bad at almost everything that I would have made something myself for E3 rather than using material from the actual trash. Which they propably did, but that's just me guessing.
That is, if the rumors are true. It's more likely that GB were just lazy fucks.
Played today. I heard xeno AI was bad, but that bad? Played on Soldier (medium?) and aliens rarely hit me, changed to Badass (hardest?) and the only two differences are: 1) aliens do more damage (obviously) but no changes on the AI part and 2) no hud (well it looks better though). Some textures resolutions are really low, videos on youtube looked better. Haven't tried multiplayer yet but from that I can see SP rank and unlocks are linked to MP. I'll jump to MP after I finish story mode, playing on hardest difficulty and doing all challenges will probably add an hour or two to 5 hour campaign. Don't really mind that Sergeant of Master Sergeants Most Important Person of Extreme Sergeants to the Max ranks in SP. So far only finished first mission.
