TotalBiscuit speaks on the subject of pre-ordering videogames and the business behind the system, following the critical panning of Aliens: Colonial Marines.

Why do we need totaldurr to discuss this? Confused

Anyway, no.
The last game that I pre-ordered was Deus Ex: HR (due to the amazing beta, duh Razz).
Was close to do it with skyrim but I only waited about 1 day to buy that one too.

If you're sure about the quality, why the hell not? I'm sure I'll preorder a collector's edition of The Witcher 3, or GTA V when it comes to PC, or the next Deus Ex or Thief it it's done by Eidos Montreal...

Last game I preordered was DNF.
and no. In age of steam we all get access to game in the same time so preordering means only shitty dlc n1 for free etc

I almost always agrees with him, as we both think alike. So in this case I agree, but I don't think it is possible. You can't educate enough people to think logically and apply critical thinking to make an impact of these kind of issues. And even when you managed to do that, it takes a little bit of temptation to break that will. For example, Borderlands 2. That had a lot of pre-order bonuses. But the one that is really hard to argue it is not good value for consumers is the free Mechromancer DLC. Publishers are smart enough to deploy better and better pre-order bonuses should they desire more pre-order numbers.

"Oh you won't pre-order even with all the trailers and bonuses? Fine you get the next DLC free if you do." Which the DLC itself could have been strip from the game before release. I think only the strong willed can stay compose in that situation, and with all the 12 year olds playing CoD like its the best game ever, I'm not too confident about this.

GTA V?

Even if I had a 3770K, GTX680/HD7970, 16GB and a wicked fast SSD instead of my POS that's the game that I would never pre-order in a million years.

Even with low details or performance problems each GTA is a game worth playing, and it's not like it's going to be any worse than X360/PS3 versions with sub-HD resolution and 16x16 textures Laughing

Look as worse no, run as worse yes Very Happy

Max Payne 3 was a huge step in the right direction but I'm still cautious about GTAV.

I don't care about bonuses, I only pre-order games I'm interested in if there is a huge discount (usually on Green Man Gaming). I never pay full price for games.

Some games are ace to pre-order and then pick them up at the store when they have their midnight releases. Those "events" can be pretty fun, even if you're not getting the game.
But yeah, I do agree that sometimes I just do get suckered into pre-ordering like a complete derp (ala Diablo 3) but that happens very seldom.

The first and the very last game game I ever preordered was Gothic 3. Never made the same mistake again. There is simply no incentive to preorder these days. We get 5% discount? Whoop-dee-fucking-doo. It will be 50% during sales. I can wait. We get 0day DLC? I can happily live without costumes and gamebreaking OP weapons, fuckyouverymuch.

Although I'm more than willing to break my streak with Starbound, since the devs are very up-front with that one and looks great for a 10$ game. If only they would get on with it already. >_<

Hmm - nah. The few times I actually paid for a game have generally been disappointments. Except for witcher series n I got boxed collectors editions fer them long after release day fer less n half list when the national bulk distributor accessed a a mob of remaindered boxed sets after the fuss died down.

Unless you count ultra chepo deals from cddiski but I don't think that is what this guy is blathering on about. In fgacthe only thing that would persuade me to pre order would be that total biscuit creep's monlogue.
That bloke has to be the worst sort of pedantic pom. I hate listening to fellas tryin to patronise me when their sense of superiority is as misplaced as that fella's is.

As for the topic; It makes no sense to pay for shit b4 you've found out whether is gives you a buzz or not, & the fact that publishers are pushing hard for pre-orders on games that have a review embargo should sound a warning to everyone.
So ya miss a dlc - b ig deal if the game is the sort of turkey that practically everything that aint DMC has been in 2013 yer not gonna want the poxy dlc anyhow.

If the game aint a POS someone is gonna release the dlc for free anyhow.
Everyone is big on whingin about games makers but those greedheads aren't gonna change until gamers change. If gamers stop givin away good money for bad games the greedies will start to make us more playable titles .

Last game I preordered was The Cave, it was a nice game but a bit short.. don't regret paying 2€ for it Razz
If only all Steam pre-orders came with silly TF2 items that you can sell on Market to get back most of what you paid for the game Laughing
