I'm on mission 4 and I really love it. GFX are ugly, story absent, but gameplay is great. It's really fast, no thrills of looking at the radar with cold sweaty hands. It's just a lot of gunfights, running, picking up powerups, switching weapons and it's awesome.
I swear that 99% of those 'game is awful' comments come from gfx whores, but ffs what did you expect from an aged console?! Who'd be making uber gfx as seen on early pre-rendered screenshots for a fast-paced shooter where you don't even have time to enjoy them? Of course the gfx are crappy!! But the game is FUN. It doesn't give any super homage (google the word if you don't know it) to Aliens or to the much awed concept of being a small frail human vs mighty killing machines, but it's fun on its own as it is.
As long as you can enjoy that you'll like it. If you expect a hollywood grade story, drama, insane voice acting and next-next-gen gfx - skip it.
P.S. I couldn't finish the llatest AvP so much I was bored. But I can't stop playing this one for some reason
What did we expect from an aged console? Anytthing that looks close to all the other games that are coming out on that aged console. This is the shittiest looking game I have played in a long time. BUT the presentation (which is shitty in every respect not only graphics) is not the only problem this game has, while it's so bad that it hurts A LOT, even if you are not a "gfx whore".
It's the gameplay or the lack thereof that's really destroying this for me. ffs this plays like a game from 15 years ago, there is absolutely no variety whatsoever, the level design is TERRIBLE and the enemies are simply not fun to fight. if this get's a metacritic score above 70 i'll be really surprised...
It's ok if you like it, but don't dismiss everyone else, who calls this turd for what it is, as a gfx whore
THE THING WAS
THEY presented it LIKE THIS... wow it looks wow for xbox360
some picture taken from the above video to show what BS CONSOLE FOOTAGE they are SHOWING
and THIS IS HOW IT LOOKS ON A REAL XBOX360
all they footage .. ALL OFF IT was faked , better to show the pc build and swamp some button icons from xbox or ps3 then SHOW THE REAL CONSOLE BUILD GRAPHICS
This is not a console version. As can you see we saw the STEAM achievements... also I have hope ... if we took Borderlands 2 and compare it with PC/Xbox we can see a lot of visual differences, so I hope the PC will looks nicer.
i mean , if you can't even believe in a in-game gameplay footage they present how it looks ... then what will power you to BUY IT ??
what you mean , who quarez about grafix ? gaemplay is what matters and this gaem is badazz i mean , you have badazz marines kick alien azz who cares about grafix
stop that Leo i know your mocking ... again as the common ''thing'' is here treated as a norm ,
but as you can see when you can`t even believe the footage they are showing, then what can you believe ?
as it was said they are doing the same thing like with DNF all the time they advertised this as a XBOX360 game with XBOX360 pads, footage that was a in-game from xbox360 ... fooling people and then the console version came looking as a XBOX 1 version compared to the better looking PC
simply put they design a game with console standards [memory space etc..] but it looks worse on those specially designed platforms then compared to the PC...they engine just can't do multiplaftorm ...
wait
this game was made by TIMEGATE guess NOW we know why its so crap ....a game company that started out as a PC developer with a RTS KOHAN and then streamlined itself with shitty 2 crap Section 8 games , 3 FEAR 1 addons ... no wonder its SO SHIT
Sin317-"im 31 years old and still surprised at how much shit comes out of my ass actually ..."
SteamDRM-"Call of Duty is the symbol of the true perfection in every aspect. Call of Duty games are like Mozart's/Beethoven's symphonies"
deadpoetic-"are you new to the cyberspace?"
The AI does suck or becomes confused. An example when I was entering a few rooms in one mission and we ran into some bad guys. The AI guy decides "Fuck That...I ain't going in that room." Next thing I know he is another room shooting at the wall repeatedly.
Useless. Why even bother coming with me on the mission in the first place if your not going to help...?
As I progressed later in the game, they ran so damn fast I couldn't even keep up with them half the time. By the time I arrived at the scene, everyone was dead or there were very few enemies remaining.
I finished the game because I'm a huge Aliens fan. I love the movie but this game is another story. It provided some weekend entertainment, I'm glad I didn't waste $60 on it and I have no desire to do a 2nd play-through unless I'm drunk. Even then it may not be anymore enjoyable.
WTF? Is that just a one-off random animation or is that how they all walk?! I played this for about an hour and didnt see any walking like that.
It's a stealth mission with some specific type of xeno drones. A whole level is filled with them sitting motionless in different poses and you just creep among them never knowing which one will come alive. Then you need to stand still until it sniffs around you and calms down and goes back to sleep.
Nice moment and quite scary. As well as the scene with the dead space jockey sitting in his chair. Some dialogue:
- Oh my God...
- No, he's not your god.
As to AI - even COD kids wouldn't stand a chance there if there was something even close to real xeno AI. They'd just rip you apart every 30 seconds and you wouldn't see it coming. So obviously it's dumbed down to allow you to at least aiim lol.
Today I didn't even need to use my AK. I gotta say it was a good day. (c) - Ice Cube
Not really, no.
The game has bigger issues than those glitches/crappy visuals; the controls/gameplay, just the overall feel and quality of it, is that of a half-assed L4D mod.
I'm still not sure that everyone that writes bad comments about the game has actually played it. More likely watched a ton of youtube videos that obviously trolled the poor thing to death.
I've completed it, won't play it again but I say once again that it was a pleasant experience as long as you ignore obsolete graphics. I like the atmosphere, I liked those rotating/strobing lights, I liked some open scenes with the giant ships, the alien infested interiors. I already mentioned that combat is really fast paced and engaging and I never ever noticed any team AI glitches. The NPC companions are always there, moving in a pattern where you can stand in the middle and relax for a second and regain some health.
Yes, I've seen the guy shooting at the wall in some room but if you actually cut his cell open you'll see that he was shooting at the vent in the wall, holding off an alien that jumps at him as soon as you open the door. And it's up to you to quickly save him.
I give it a strong 6/10 and it's definitely worth playing as long as you aint' a whining gfx whore.

@Waargh, like I said, those - poor visuals/glitches - are not the only issues of the game.
The moronic AI on both allies and enemies, the unpolished feel of the controls, the poor execution of the Aliens brand/feel on a video game (I must have killed ~50 xenos in the first 40 min --well fuck tension! needles to say that killed the atmosphere completely), those crappy xenos animations (I swear AvP 2010 had better animated xenos), those mutiplayer element that have no place in a singleplayer campaign, that death cam and the way everything flips out in that scene in a lolwut way, just everything about this game stinks of poor execution from a studio that assured fans with every chance they had that they are bringing their A game.
It's not like we're judging a mod or free game, this is a product, a very shitty one at that, one they are charging you 60$/40£ for it while toying with your fan-hopes and expectations.
Ex-Gearbox dev in May 2012: "I am expecting [Colonial Marines] to be average at best." Also said "development of that game has been a total train wreck," and Gearbox only was handling multiplayer, with TimeGate as primary dev.
Here's the full statement from that ex-Gearbox dev,
"Hate to say it, but I wouldn't get your hopes up too high for Colonial Marines. I used to work at Gearbox, and the development of that game has been a total train wreck, going on what, 6 years now? Gearbox isn't even making the game, except for the multiplayer. Primary development was outsourced to TimeGate Studios, which has a less than stellar past. I hope it proves me wrong, as I still have alot of friends still working at Gearbox, but I am expecting it to be average at best."
