Gone live today !! (f2p)

Quote:
Veteran game designer American McGee (Quake, Alice, Grimm) and Spicy Horse (Alice: Madness Returns) are set on delivering players a uniquely enthralling "buy it all" action role-playing experience.

Akaneiro: Demon Hunters will transport you to a world realized in a striking visual style inspired by Japanese ink, watercolor and woodblock illustration. We’ve dug deep into the history and folklore of Japan when designing our scenarios and characters. Mixing this foundation with an original mythology inspired by Red Riding Hood yields a fantastic and inspiring setting for players to explore.

Akaneiro provides players with a unique ARPG of depth, blended seamlessly with the speed and intensity of a pure action title. Combat is fast and unrelenting, but you can sway the tide with careful selection of abilities and equipment. A multitude of character building paths are available, though we've avoided being overly prescriptive, ensuring you can find the best balance of abilities and equipment for your personal play style.

The game is different from other aRPGs in the sense that it's made as a more casual game. It's clear that they never aimed for it to be a contender to the aRPG throne. And for that, it's not bad at all. It feels pretty good. I love the soundtrack and the visuals. American McGee turns everything he touches into awesomeness, hehe. He's the main reason I tried this actually and I'm glad to see he did his part very good, as always.

It's the stand-alone client though, not the web browser based one. Smile
(Although I believe they have download links for the client up now that the game has been both in open beta and then final release.)

Game's listed only as MP-only on Wiki. Anywa, since you say it can be played solo, I'll give this one a try. Smile

Mainly to indicate he was the last one to back up the game by more than 60 bucks.

Now on Steam "early-access" with a little price-tag due to it being bundled with a starter pack boost.

Akaneiro: Demon Hunters devs 'in the hole' $1.7M

Quote:
Development on Akaneiro: Demon Hunters will have to be "radically" altered to accommodate financial reasons, creator American McGee announced via Kickstarter.

According to McGee, Spicy Horse has spent $2 million against the $300,000 it's made from Kickstarter, Steam and in-game purchases. That leaves the developer "in the hole" for $1.7 million. The core team working on Akaneiro has been reduced to two people who will continue to make improvements on the game and finish tablet and multiplayer support. Their progress will, however, be slower.

I bought it ages ago (maybe the Summer Sale I forget) its a bit 'meh' if I am honest, I played it for a few hours and then uninstalled.

Had this thread not been bumped I doubt I would even have thought about it again.

-i rarely play MP and i just hate online-only DRM and a majority of those "modern" pseudo social "features"
- i have internet home (not so stable one) and travel a lot lately (my hometown/ worktown and GF's town are 100km apart)
so last couple months i play mostly while traveling or at places where is no internet connections.
- i have too much work to do lately and have time only for some small indie games between studying and work while internet is on

Since when have we started accepting online-only restrictions and limitations? I completely agree with prudislav, I lost all interest in this when it turned out to be online only and with no plans for offline mode, because whether I have a net connection or not is immaterial. I simply don't like being forced into playing online.
