Nope, you're not the only one. It should have had more skills, but I really liked the tactical aspect (which was only evident on Hard since you got your ass kicked otherwise).

Yeah, maybe. What was there was interesting and balanced quite well though.

I gave this another try after that Risen vs. Game of Thrones thread...and holy shit, just finished it and the story is absolutely awesome. The writing overall is amazing, the characters, the side quests the choices. All top notch.

It falls short in a lot of other (minor) areas, but that's very easy to ignore once you get involved in the story.

The end was a bit too obvious, but there were a lot of other twists that surprised me.

Initially I played for about an hour and dismissed it as yet another crappy game based on book/tvshow. I'm very glad I tried this again.

Yea, started this during my winter leave and am about midway through the game. Combat reminds me of DA:Origins, though I like how the game doesn't completely freeze during active pause but the world continues to move ever so slowly.

Story is excellent, and is interesting for both those new to the franchise or for the peeps who follow the TV series (have yet to read the books as am still finishing the Eragon series). Suggest that those who want to try this out stick with it for at least an hour before judging it. Also money is tough to come by, but doing the arena side quest in Chapter 8 gives you some much-needed gold so don't miss out on that.

Comparing Eragon with Song of Ice and Fire series.... Wow! Just...wow!
They are so different....If Eragon is your standard when it comes to heroic fantasy genre, you will have a shock reading A Song of Ice and Fire. Because you will have grit, you will have intrigue, betrayal, swearing, you will have incest, rape, torture and all the niceties from the medieval Dark Age (that would be the period that starts with the fall of the western roman empire and ends with the late crusades). The fantasy element is mostly suggested. Eragon is like a child's fantasy book. And if i recall correctly, Eragon was aimed to teenagers.

i like GoT TV series more than SoIF books. Was forcing myself to finish reading first book - its just too slowpaced. Never had this problem with other fantasy series like LotR,Witcher,Dwarves,... and even Inheritance Cycle

Thing is: Song of Ice and Fire is not your typical heroic fantasy.Finished all the books so far and i must say that the TV series are relatively close to the book. And I'm an avid consumer of heroic fantasy (Tad Williams, Robin Hobb, Glenda Larke, Trudi Canavan, Steven Eriksson, Terry Brooks, Terry Goodkind and so on...).

But so far, probably only Eriksson comes close to what Martin did.

The books are not your standard fantasy, it's more a political thriller.

probably its too slowpaced and too big scale for me - half of the book is just travelling here and there.
(i loved political stuff in Witcher books and they have similar pace but lower scale and less noticable characters)
From authors you mentioned i know only Sword of Truth series which has 4 translators and all 4 have different (sometimes pretty bad) translations of names,...
and I am too lazy to read it in english. Maybe I will try it again after I finish college

I try to read heroic fantasy and science-fiction books in english (well at least the ones written by the anglo-saxons). Mainly because the quality of the translation in my native language is goddamn awful.

@Mister_s

The term is, i think, low fantasy.

Wasn't comparing Eragon to the Song of Ice and Fire series; it just happened to be the series I was going thru at the time. Have been a bit reluctant to start the GoT series, as I typically read thru an entire book series and then move on to the next.

Since I have been only watching the show so far, I really don't want to spoil how it plays out, plus movies/TV shows tend to disappoint me once I have read the original material. Which is why I am still thinking of holding out until the TV series is complete. BTW, thanks for reminding me about the Sword of Truth series prudislav; I was only able to purchase the first 2 or 3 novels a few years back, so should be able to get the whole series now!

Anyways, back to GoT: The RPG, I just reached the CrossRoads chapter, very interesting how their paths meet and the revelations that follow. Mors in the dungeon is such a badass Very Happy

The game updated again, unsure what this patch did.

EDIT: At first I found nothing but the game exe that had changed but browsing around it appears that the three DLC got a few updates as well.

EDIT: Game exe and the first DLC, Beyond the Wall or what it was called.

Started this today, it's very interesting story-wise. Gameplay is just deep enough to keep me interested.

I finished the first chapter in one go Smile

Ah the armor you get from the Wall, or rather the barbarians there, I kinda think the same whenever a game gives me a armor decorated with organic parts. Very Happy

Until Monday, the game + all available DLCs for 7,5 euros in total on Steam. Also, DRM-free (not counting Steam DRM), meaning Steam version doesn't have that Tages activation or whatnot.

How linear is it, any exploration at all? Is loot random and interesting?

It's primarily a game you play for story.

It was a long time ago I played it but I think loot was decent, not randomly generated like Diablo if that's what you mean.

It's linear although each area you visit you can explore the side paths. Some are bigger than others although none are too large.

It plays just as boring as Dragon Age 2 and is about the same size Razz

But the characters and story are actually good and even the sidequests are never pointless and connected to the narrative.

Was there ever an Alester DLC?
The last was Mors beyond the wall prologue, then nothing came after it.

Holy shit, there are some epic twists in this story, wow. Some brutal stuff happening, too, it really catches you off guard.

It's a long game, too, although I must be close to finishing it, finally. I'm dling that vitality rlz so I can go through that short story DLC as well.

This game was in my backlog for far too long. I played it before but stopped because i found the game boring and clunky.
Last week i decided to give it another go. I put the difficulty on easy and played the game with a controller. This time the combat was bearable.
After reaching chapter 9 i couldn't stop playing. The story is really good (much better then season 8 )
I loved the twists and turns it took and finished the game + dlc about an hour ago.
If you like the books or series you should definately try this. It kinda plays like an interactive season 0 of the show.

How is it as an RPG?
I somehow get a Witcher 1 feeling, when I skim through the above video (mostly because of graphics and clunky combat Razz )

I'd say that's somewhat accurate, yes. I didn't think the combat was bad at all to be honest, but to each their own. The game overall? I fucking loved it, fantastic story and characters. It's a travesty this game was buried by everyone because it doesn't have the polish of bigger games, even though it's better than a lot of bigger rpgs.
