I've got an issues with some speakers experiencing some sudden interference.
I've had these speakers and this set up for well over 2 years, and no change was made. About 2 months ago I started getting intermittent bursts of static from the speaker. Sometimes it would go on for a little while, other times it would last just a short time. Sometimes it wouldn't happen for at least a week (that I noticed)
It's finally gotten annoying enough that I'm trying to do something about it. Key points:
1)When the PC is off the speakers will still make the noise
2)when the speakers are totally unplugged from the computer they'll still make the noise
3)When the speakers are moved to an entirely different room they'll stop making the noise (or at least as far as I can tell from the short test I did, the speakers are firing off about every 5-10 seconds right now and after 5 minutes nothing in the other room)
4)When moved to another outlet in this room and moved across the room they'll still make the noise albeit a little bit less loudly.
I haven't added any electronics devices in the room, and the fact that they do it when the machine is completely shut down tells me it is unlikely to be anything like that.
The fact that they seem to stop in another room tells me it's not the speakers themselves.
I just can't figure out what the interference would be. My only thought is that the downstairs or upstairs neighbour has put in some kind of new equipment of some kind that might interfere, but I can't think of what might interfere into the next apartment like that.
I have a wireless router here in the room, but that's been there as long as the setup I have.
I finally got a hold of some other speakers to swap out, and low and behold, they're doing the same thing. Different brand, etc. So clearly some interference in this general area, but I can't imagine what it is..
I've tried:
completely turning off my cell phone (it's 4G but anyway)
unplugging the wireless router
disconnecting the external hard drive that sits slightly near the speakers (but has always been there)
removing my logitech unifying receiver for my mouse
removing the logitech mini receiver for my keyboard (note that the mouse and keyboard do seem to stutter during these recent bursts of interference)
turning off the printer
any ideas? I'm going crazy here.

The obvious problem is that you have a bad ground for the power source you are plugging into. It's either just shit and improperly installed, or you've got some noisy stuff plugged in that should be plugged inline with a power filter.

That would make sense if I haven't had the same setup for over 2 years with no change.
and when everything else is turned off that is plugged into the same power strip as it it still makes the noise.
The speaker also makes the noise when plugged into an entirely different outlet but in the same room (but it's slightly fainter)
There is obviously some kind of interference centered around this area, but it's absolutely nothing new at all.
I even just ripped the Ferrite bead (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferrite_bead ) out of an old cable and put it as close to the speaker on the wire as I could, and the speaker is still making the noise.
This has been off and on for 2 months just happens it'll last for an hour or two usually then go away..but the last 24 hours it's been coming hard, but again nothing changed..
Now I've swapped out the entire speaker system, but the new ones are doing the same thing, so I've basically eliminated every single thing in my room. With everything turned off it still makes the noise.

A.) That'll really only help DC circuits and I assume the speakers have an AC input.
B.) The type of noise i'm talking about a ferrite bead would be worthless anyways.
You need to get an AC EMI filter or something of the sort.
I personally install quick-connect EMI filters for every circuit in the house.
High-End Amps/Receivers should have an EMI filter in place in the unit itself, but if it's lower end it likely won't.
If you determine the root problem is coming from your commercial vendor then i'd call them up and tell them to fix their shit.

and why would that be the problem after all this time on the same setup?
I also live in an apartment building, if it was a power problem you think everyone would be having issues, and it would be affecting all outlets equally. Plugged into other rooms there is no problem.
My only real choice here is to get a power strip with EMI filter on it. I can't really replace the outlets in my apartment, and all the ones I've seen on google seem to be the kind where you completely replace the outlet.
I still don't understand why this is something that would only be coming on in the last 2 months and only be affecting one room... nor why it would cause interference with the mouse and keyboard during the bursts. It seems much more likely to me that something is generating bursts of interference when transmitting fairly regularly.
Though I did finally find individual socket filters finally, like $20 each. I'll get one and try it for the speaker to see if it helps.

I found an individual socket filter and ordered it, none in store, I'll get it monday maybe. This afternoon the interference is taking a break.. but I expect it back at night.. I wonder if some kind of electric heater could be throwing out interference. They're common here in Korea and it might be just when someone is home above or below they might be using one..but I can't imagine something like that doing it.

I got the socket filter and before I got it, the interference stopped. It was going hard, about 36 hours near straight. Then it just disappeared. So I've got the filter sitting here waiting for it to come back. It came back a couple days ago, but only like 2 times in 2 hours so there was no way for me to put the filter on to verify it was actually doing something.

Well I had a theory that it had to do with the cold weather. It's been relatively warm lately, sitting around -2 to +2 for a couple weeks. It just got cold again. -17 with the wind, yesterday. Woke up this morning and it is making the noise.
Woohoo I thought.
So I slapped the filter into the socket and plugged the speakers in..and...
no help.
still making the damn noise.
Which means it has to be something from outside the electricity itself causing interference, that only comes in cold weather, that isn't actually in my room since I've independently unplugged every other thing in here.

So it warmed up, noise stopped..
got real cold again today, -23 with the wind.. just started making the noise again this evening..
I thought that during cold weather a higher electricity load as people ran heaters and things might do something to change the electricity in the building and generate interference. Whatever is happening, the filter certainly isn't doing the trick.
I even put the filter in front of the power bar (it's good for 2200W) and tried it on just the speakers itself. Neither does anything.
It's driving me insane..any other ideas?

For me it is wifi. I can hear the wifi signal at high download speeds.
