Set the cache option to large, there will be only minimal "loading". There's no need for a console command unless your CPU can't catch up / you run buggy drivers. |

I retraced my steps and seta vt_maxppf "24" fixed all problems (better performance and no more texture reloading)

That's because you have the newer series, AMD doesn't give a single fuck about their older series anymore... Should sue them tbh for not providing proper driver support with their cards... |
Ehm i just started playing the Game again on newest patch with DLC on an old C2D 3.5 ghz and a hd5770 since im strandet here over Christmas away from my new PC, tweaked the ini a bit (8k textures,cache options and so on) and disabled texture detail and this gpu transcode thingy since both options give me bad stuttering and fps (i read they are only rly useable on nividia gpus anyway) and its locked 60fps pretty mutch anywhere with 1080p 4X AA with no noticable texture popup game looks realy great. I wish every game would run like that tried Far cry 3 earlier on this machine and it was pretty mutch unplayable on lowest settings and looked like total crap.

I can't use 8K textures with my card, the 1GB video RAM isn't enough and I get problems when the game loads new areas into video memory. .... seriously, when I enter a new area and I press W to move forward, my HDD led indicator thing starts going crazy lighting up. Stop moving and it stops.

Strange my 5770 is only 1gb too and it works fine did you try disabling texture detail and gpu transcode? i see you have a nvidia card so maybe try them both off and on,the only other things i did was make the folders "id software\rage" in "C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Local\" for the cache files and
make a RageConfig.cfg in base folder with this tweaks:
vt_pageimagesizeuniquediffuseonly2 8192
vt_pageimagesizeuniquediffuseonly 8192
vt_pageimagesizeunique 8192
vt_pageimagesizevmtr 8192
vt_restart

By creating that folder Rage creates a 1 GB big block file there to dump the cache into, I don't really know if it uses RAM to do this if no location is defined, maybe it's like the pagefile (Very likely.) and it's used if it's needed.
(You shouldn't need to specify the path but you can use it to change it's location I guess.)

Sorry, but FC3 looks 100x better then RAGE will ever do...
Plus you disabled options, why should i, with a rig like mine, have to disable stuff in order to run smooth? Makes no sense..
I played it once, with those drivers it ran good, newer drivers not anymore.. Same with Skyrim, need to install 10.11 (or 11.10, can't remember anymore), in order to make it run solid 60 with just 1 card, other drivers make it worse and can't get solid 60 (one or more cards won't matter with other drivers).

Sure it looks great on my new machine too on ultra and runs ok but i think the performance is not that great for what it looks like, its also rly not my type of game i dont like these easy open world casual shooters its like a themepark in a jungle too me so maybe i am a little biased against it^^

There should be an option in your settings for it aleast its there for me with the newest patch gpu transcoding and texture detail are nvidia specific options and can in theory actually improve the texture detail and streaming but i dunno if it only helps on newer nv cards. |

AFAIK only the gpu transcode is nvidia only (and thus greyed out for AMD users), nothing more, nothing less.

Correct, CUDA is being used for GPU accelerated transcoding of the streamed megatexture parts.
The detail option doesn't even use your GPU (like.. at all). It needs a really strong CPU (and it still works bad  )

I'm also playing the game and noticed that the photoshop noise filt...err "texture detail" option actually destroys the framerate, adding tons of stuttering (my HDD isn't exactly fast) whereas with that option disabled it runs smooth as butter even with the cfg tweaks.

How do you enable CUDA "on the second GPU"? It has an option to choose?

I think that can be set up from the Nvidia control panel.
(PhysX, CUDA or SLI, I am a bit unsure how the option worked but I think that's how you set it up.)

Yeah you can force it in the Nvidia control panel. Go to the game profile and select the 2nd GPU under the CUDA options.
The game runs really good now with all the settings here http://online-source.net/tools/cfg-makers/rage-cfg-maker/ left as they are (will tweak them tomorrow).

how long is that dlc?
worth 5 euro ?
I got rage from gamersgate. Hope that dlc would work too. (neither rage or dlc is in my region on steam but rage gamersgate key works)

It's five areas distributed across the wasteland, a few hours of playtime though I haven't completed it yet myself.

yeah its enough content for the price, you can finally enter that refinery building and the Jackpots and after finishing the DLC you get your own trophy apartment in Wellspring and the girl as your personal fuckdoll

I will try messing around with the settings a bit more and I will create that folder for the cache. Can't hurt to try. 
I spent ages trying to get the game playable. Maybe now I can crank the settings up a bit.
