Hello all,

Trying to find out what's wrong with my main gaming rig. Worked fine up until today. The computer turns on fine and I can hear windows booting up. However, there is no signal on the monitor the entire time, not even the BIOS. I switched monitors and cables, still no dice. I tried the monitors and cables on different computers, they worked fine.

So I'm thinking it's either the GFX card, the motherboard, or the PSU. The GFX card is a 6 month old 8550, and I doubt it's the problem. Thoughts?

Tainted is no dummy zipf Rolling Eyes

Did you check if your monitor was powered on? Cool Face

j/k Smile

Open up the case and reassure that your card is sitting in it's slot properly. And your main gaming rig has an 8550? Poker Face

Safe money sez HD6850.

If it wasn't that much of a hassle you should test the card on another machine.

In my experience, if the GPU was not properly seated, the PC wouldn't boot properly at all. That happened a couple of times years and years ago though, so I can't say that experience is at all significant Smile

If you have onboard GPU, zipfero's suggestion should eliminate the main GPU as a problem at least. I assume you have tried using different outputs on the GPU itself?

yeah just open the pc and reinsert gpu. Also reconnect power cables and monitor cables.

If the PSU was broken, you'd have seen signs as well as other stuff simply not working. Once a PSU breaks, it breaks good.

A broken videocard SHOULD not allow you to POST, but it may just be a minor defect; a signal generator or something may be broken. Does it have multiple outputs? If so, tried them all?

Motherboard is also unlikely, again you'd have seen signs unless there's been a surge which blew the PCI-e lanes.

Sorry for not replying, very busy these days as always Smile I took the computer apart and tested the components individually. It was the GFX card Sad Amazing considering I didn't even use it more than a dozen times, and it's only 6 months old.

This computer has officially lived through 2 GFX cards, for a net total of $800 down the drain =/

Just an update to this thread, my computer managed to kill a 3rd graphics card Laughing I'm getting a new computer, and putting a $15 graphics cards into this one and using it as a server.
