In May 2012, The Creative Assembly released TEd, the tool used internally to create battlefield environments in Total War: Shogun 2. In September 2012, CA also unveiled a brand new suite of tools: the Assembly Kit for Shogun 2.
This kit includes the following:
DAVe database tool
Unit Editor for changing the look for units
Tooldatabuilder for unpacking
Campaign map reprocessing
Max export scripts for models
Example Max files for most model types
BoB processing tool, also capable of building mod packs
Documentation (see below)
The Creative Assembly has also announced full Steam Workshop integration for Total War: Shogun 2, allowing users to create and upload their own Shogun 2 mods, or simply explore existing mods made by the community.
Ultimately, this section of the Wiki will include tips and tutorials from The Creative Assembly which the modding community can use as a resource for learning to use these tools.
We also hope to conduct polls on what questions the community would like answering, and ultimately build a thriving modding community through the wiki.
We also have a community resources section where the community can share modding tips and tutorials they've created themselves.

Yeah... And to be honest, there's only two campaign DLCs (Rise and Fall of Samurai), the rest are generic unit DLCs, so it's not like they milked it as much as, say, EA have with Mass Effect and Dragon Age.

Too late (and I agree with dannofdawn).. but it's something. Rome:TW 2 won't be released until next year so there's all the time to see some great stuff from the community.
The optimisation patch for Shogun 2 brings with it a host of key improvements that we’ve made to the core Shogun 2 experience since its release last year.
If you own Shogun 2 and Fall of the Samurai, this patch will reduce the hard-drive footprint of your install by 6.6gb (22.4%). If you just own one, you’ll still see an install size reduction.
A 20-40% reduction in initial load times, dependent on machine spec, graphics settings and OS.
A series of bugfixes and other optimisation tweaks.

+ Otomo Clan DLC
Edit: you need around 25gb of free space to get steam to download the patch
"SEGA announced today that the Otomo Clan Pack, a brand new playable faction for Total War: SHOGUN 2, is now available for download. Comprising new buildings, new units, a new clan trait and a customized tech tree, The Otomo Clan Pack promises to offer a fresh slant on SHOGUN 2 gameplay with a clan focussed on converting its countrymen to Christianity."
Fuck, after some time I missed Shogun 2 and re-installed it. After the latest patches the game has pretty fast loading times and optimization is greatly improved but now, it crashes after a 30-60 minutes of gameplay.
I have 32bit W7 installed(Just for the sake of my Athlon II x3's 4th core, heh). I have no problem until the crash, but it crashes nontheless without any crash data. Just a random "... has stopped working" without details. Pfft. Besides that I'm still having lots of fun with TWS2.
Question: If I only get FOTS, does it come with the ROTS map? As in I want to play from the earliest time period and all the way through to the latest. Which from reading wikipedia means one save game from ROTS to FOTS. Is that even possible?

RoTS, Shogun 2 and FoTS are separate campaigns. You need Shogun 2 to run RoTS, but FoTS is stand alone. So if you want to play FoTS, you only need to get FoTS.
If you're gonna pirate it, I bet there's a full pack around with latest patch which improves the optimization and stability greatly also included. So you can try out and decide which one to play.
So, is the upcoming Shogun 2 Gold Edition (EU version) worth buying? I don't care about the extra clans and units, so: are the 2 additional campaigns any good? Or should I just buy the base game for 1/3 price, at a bargain of EUR 10?
imo they are all good. ROTS is a little limited unit wise but it has other upsides like neat agents. And I really liked the influence system in the rots campaign.
FOTS is great, vanilla is great other than realm divide

So, I just wanted to play this again, and remembered about the Gold edition and coincidentally it's the 5th of March. So, is it out? I can't find it on Steam.
