Reaction

Girls are the worst offenders of this. Not to exclude guys from the equation but most of them take it well along with a tiny majority of girls.

You praise something and they go "is that sarcasm or what?!" .
Why are girls so cynical in terms of praise?

Are You Serious

1 and 2 are still amazing.

It's a typical reaction to elicit more praise. "You're so beautiful", "really? you're not just saying that are you?", "no really you are the most beautiful thing I have ever seen", "oh you!".

One would think, given the comments about girls on these forums that there is a vast majority that never actually spent time with them or just are class/clueless concerning the subject.

Girls receive a lot of compliments, sometimes they have low self-esteem and have a hard time taking a compliment, a lot of times they know there's desperation and "I want to get laid" in the air and once they get a whiff of that they turn to sarcasm (best way to confront desperate guys).

Really though, why were you complimenting her? If it was a genuine appreciation and not something you say to any girl then it might've been insecurity. Tough to tell from just describing it.

I had just complimented an HR official on her buying a Vostro and a bluetooth mouse saying that was "quite a nice professional choice" given how most of
the girls here have weird ass pink sony vaios / graphic label covered lids which scream not work-friendly at all.

She then goes "Is that sarcasm from an IT guy" Laughing

I said "not at all, it is in fact praise about you not bringing in inane looking things which remotely resemble laptops to work".
After that she immediately understood what I meant, laughed and said thanks.

If she didnt know any better she may have presumed you were taking the piss, being that you are the 'IT guy', I can certinly see why she may have done (in general) if soneone had said 'hey thats a nice mouse' when she has just bought it.

To be honest I dont see the issue, she said 'are you taking the piss' you said 'no I was being serious, thats a decent mouse' and that was over and done with.

i dont see teh big deal to be honest, I just seems ot be a simple misunderstanding between someone who knows computers and someone who does not.

But maybe I am not seeing something in all this.

Laurentiu, Stormwolf,

Mister_s, yeah that is true. That is why if I'm forced to compliment a girl I use one of the 4 generic words that all go well with looking: nice/good/pretty/beautiful. Laughing

Saner, I did not even have a hint of sarcasm in my tone when I said that so even a computer illiterate person would know that was just simple praise.

Acer, I don't think so. Wouldn't make any sense either as we rarely talk so it was I guess a usual case of finding something negative in something positive.

He's earned his right to sit on his high horse.. at least on special occasions. I respect people that can outwit probably every person in this forum (myself included). Very Happy
