So, seeing as how November and October are the months during which most of my friends are born, I attended a lot of birthdays these past two months. Birthdays for people which I've known for a while now and I consider friends.

So, my birthday's coming up, right? And I start making calls and texting to invite these guys and gals. Out of...I dunno, 20 people? Only 7 of them said yes, they will come. The rest of'em are somehow unreachable. I even specifically said I do not want any presents in advance, I have everything I want or need, for the moment. Still no answer.

What the hell?

people are strange, but in a way you get to see whom you can really trust and who is your true friend.

Unreachable people when there are several parties in a row...sometimes I am one of them. Laughing

I wouldn't worry too much though, some will wait until the last-minute as always, the rest will probably stay MIA, but doesn't mean that they don't consider you a friend Smile

(I don't have much experience with birthdays-related stuff though, since the 99% of the people that I know have stopped celebrating them ages ago Razz)

It might be because of a subconscious material need, but considering I went to their birthdays, even when I barely had any money, I still had a present and they specifically said they want none, they could at least go out for a night at my favorite bar and have a drink with me, on me.

Also, I'm just looking for an excuse to get drunk with as many friends as possible.

They might be afraid you expect them to do you the same favor as you do them at their birthdays. You gave the present and drinks for free when they said they didn't want anything. Now you do the same, and they might think you in reality expect the same.

I very rarely even bother saying happy birthday, or even remembering the birthday of friends. That doesn't mean I don't care for them, as I will give them presents on occasion and help them out when they need it, just not for birthdays or other such occasions.
I wouldn't worry about it too much. Just don't show up for their birthday or give them birthday presents in the future.

Don't like celebrating b-days. Don't really see the point in it...

So you grow old every year. Ok. Entropy. Big deal xD

I mean, it might have meant something when I was a kid (and even then I rarely made parties because my parents were kinda broke, so we couldn't afford it), but now... I dk. Maybe a beer in a bar with 5-6 really good friends, and that's it.

Other will say 'Happy Birthday' on my fb wall and that's it Very Happy

i dont get it.

If i wanted to do a bday party, which happens now and then, i just call my few very good friends and we have a party. How can you call those people friends if you have to call and cant reach them?

I have a better relationship with my colleagues at work...

Well, the ones coming are those I know the most or for a long time so I don't mind. I won't even insist. One time was enough, I won't be begging them to come.

On a materialistic note; less people, more booze.

See, my friends and I don't even bother doing invitations or anything of the sort. We see each other regularly anyway and we all know that everyone's welcome at anyone's birthday. End result? We're pretty much all together again on birthdays.

I only celebrate my birthday with family : my wife, kids and parents. I don't have and don't need friends; had some, they prove to be backstabbing assholes, leeching pieces of shit, even after 15 years of friendship. I even moved to another city to be completely away from them, started anew - family, job, house. Best move i ever made.

I don't celebrate my birthday either, probably just a few friends I call for a drink but nothing more, like a birthday cake or a present.

Wow, I envy you. I got fragapane phobia, I fucking dread my birthday! When I turned 20 in January, I spent my birthday drinking beer and renovating my apartment, lol.

Sucks about your "friends" though, they don't seem very nice at all.
