Just dived in. I thought the description of the Constellation sounded pretty cool, but the price was a tad rich for my blood. Plumbed for the $60 digital Bounty Hunter pledge with an Origin 300i instead.

I wounder if Chris Roberts is cheering right now or crying because of the lvl pf pledges reached and all the extra work needed.
Still incredible that they've reach 5.5 mil, Im very happy and hope more studios are keeping an eye on this. Just because some suit says a certain genre is dead doesent make it so.

Good thing is you'll get access to the alpha and beta if you pledge over a certain ammount. But yeah its a long way til release, but hopefully worth it.

Not so fond of betas for games like this and mmos. At best you can play much and do almost everything, just that when the game is out, all you've done is erased and you need to start over again.

Like Acer said if you pledge above specific amount you will gain access to the alpha and beta. Basically we will get the multiplayer version of the game in 1 year or so (the openworld section of the game).

I'm starting to think about how the finished game will a) play, and (more importantly) b) Sell.
$5mil is fairly impressive, but then I wonder how much Freelancer cost to make. And, how many dedicated staff will be on hand to maintain the persistent online universe?
(of course I'd volunteer to help run things, free of charge...)
I notice he's already confirmed DLC before the game has even been written... Ok, so we'll get it for free, I just hope it isn't going to cost too much for those buying it at release.
Anyway, I want a Carrier, and I shall call it the SS Prophecy. Yay!

He has investor money in addition to the crowdfunding. Sounds like he will get at least another 10 mill on top, so expect an over all budget in the order of 15-20mil. That's something more in line with AAA games, although maybe still not enough for everything he has in mind.
