Can I add mods after starting a game? I mean can adding mods later on mess with my current savegame. I just started playing (~7 hours).

Depends on the mod. Inconsequential things like retextures or new items are no problem, but with any mod that changes mechanics or otherwise makes large changes it is generally advisable, if not necessary, to start a new game. Read the mod's readme to see if the author notes any specific instructions/limitations. That is the point of including one after all.

Most "HD" texture mods are complete ass. They just up all the resolutions of the original textures and run them through some Photoshop filters. If anything that probably just makes things worse. Given the limitations of the engine, I'm not sure that even completely custom textures made from scratch, even assuming they were any good aesthetically, would drastically improve the quality. Throwing a series of 2048x2048 textures on a character model doesn't inherently make it better. But these sorts of "visual enhancement" mods are ultimately very subjective, so you'd be best served perusing what's available at the Nexus and deciding for yourself.

couldn't agree more. personally i think most gfx enhancing mods are made by people with little to none knowledge in graphical design and art. it's really easy to over saturate, over sharpen, over light game assets, and to untrained eye it gives that wow factor, but to me it just looks like shit that ruins intended look of games. every time someone posts a pic of an old game with 100 of mods installed and brag how great it looks, i just cringe and think "it looks like shit".

+1 from me as well. All the texture packs that I've tried completely ruin the original style, either because too artificially sharpened or because out of the place/too saturated. It's a shame because this game would need a good texture pack.

Fuck me playing this game makes me sad Sad I don't think I appreciated it properly the first time I played it. It's a damn shame this franchise got murdered. I'm afraid this will be the last game of its sort Sad

I've been thinking about DA2 and something made me wonder. What exactly was the purpose of Morrigan's baby in DA:O? Did I miss a DLC or something? What happened to the baby? I don't remember DA2's story very well, so I might've missed something concerning Morrigan.

They said it will be addressed in DA3. Guess it was bound to happen regardless of whether the play chose to sleep with her or not.

I shot down the idiotic creepy baby plan and finally stabbed her at the end of the dlc as a thank you for abandoning the final fight. Useless lady... Laughing

1 and 2 are still amazing.

There's a DA3? Focused Mind Is Full Of Fuck Are You Serious Pffchh Everything Went Better Than Expected

Not sure how to react to that one, I guess it depends on is it a sequel to DA or DAshit2.

No, you didn't miss anything. It's just another proof that DA2 sucks balls. The whole game and it's Devs are acting like DA:O never existed. Everything you've learned from DA:O wents to shit when you play DA2 and pay attention. They've just thrown some characters from DA:O in because they had too but their simple minded targeted audience didn't give a fuck anyway...

Oh god.. why am I doing this again Sad

Do the keys in Dragon Age Origins Ultimate Edition have an expiry date. I am planning on purchasing a boxed copy for my Xbox 360 for only 20€. Pretty cheap i must say. Pretty cheap only when the keys still actually work. Don't want to go blindly in so thats why im asking this before actual purchase.

I am asking this here because the console area on Nfohump seems much more dead than the PC section.

I think we all know the answer to that question.

How often do developers turn back from the path of shit once they've started? I'm sure it's happened but it's damn rare.

Well according to some Amazon reports, the DLC codes that come with the game have expired - but you can contact EA and they'll give you working codes, apparently.

Those amazon reports are actually based on an error by one of EA's windows services. A service needed is not always installed or started, so DLCs are not authorized. So it's not the keys, it's the service which can easily be fixed with a tool released by EA.

Also replaying this game. It's a damn shame we'll never see a proper sequel, but at least the first on is good.

I must say, though. Loading times are an absolute breeze on my new PC (with SSD Cool Face). I remember back in 2009 I had to sometimes wait for up to 30 seconds for a level to load (especially Denerim).

I really engoyed D.A. but it ended just when the real fun started .
It was too short, with games like BG in mind, of course.

Sex with Morrigan was the primary goal of the game.

On nightmare, how the fuck do you beat large mobs at the beginning of the game? (During travelling on the map) My spells are largely for single attacks so I can't engulf them in flames/oil yet, it seems impossible

If I'm thinking of the right enemies... you can't really do it. They're just too tough at that point in the game.

Oh, those I believe you can beat, yeah. There was another group that I encountered a few times when I played that consisted of some really though demons I believe and there was no way to beat them as they were completely destroying me... The game throws at you some really weird encounters when you travel and I can't really remember how I did it exactly, but you could try traveling to some other place and then going back to where you wanted. I don't really know...

Seems you can do it if you keep spamming potions the entire battle :/

I had to look up the statistics for that difficulty setting, but it seems you've already figured it out. Very Happy

http://dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Difficulty_settings

Quote:

Potion Cap
Easy = 20 Normal = 12 Hard = 8 Nightmare = 0

(Traps deal a bit more damage, enemies get a bit more resistance and damage treshold is much higher otherwise it's pretty much the same as Hard difficulty other than the potion addiction.)

(And console players get to deal with the difficulties of full friendly fire damage scaling.)

I have held off playing this game for quite a long time now. Just wanted to know how difficult is combat to learn in this game? I take it there is no native controller support on this game.

DA1 is not an action game. If you want to use a controller, DA2 is probably more your speed.

I was asking mainly because I would prefer playing on my TV screen rather than my PC monitor. I was even considering the Xbox 360 version. But if it's best suited with a mouse and a keyboard, then I wouldn't mind giving it a shot. Seeing how Dragon Age Origins has got a universal acclaim, this is probably the only modern RPG I am yet to try. Smile
