Make sure you visit Gozo.
I went to Comino a few years ago, so I could visit both Malta and Gozo with ease. Gozo (IMO) is the far nicer place.
Thats not to say Malta has anything wrong with it, its a stunning country and the locals are fantastic. I just preferred Gozo

Use the buses if you can handle them.
They cost next to nothing (when I went of course) and you can get all over the place.
Taxis were ok price wise. To be honest its such a small island I personally would find a rental a waste of money, but I am a walker anyway
