Yeah i knew that, but even on 12.8 having it on a single card (not just with profile, but properly turning crossfire off) gives me massive stuttering and barely manages to get 40 fps..
While on 11.10 it is flawless solid 60 with 1 card..

Okay, I dug this thread up figuring this might be the more appropriate one Smile

I downloaded the 12.11 Beta drivers (the ones that got taken down due to some other bugs) and did some "benchmarks" on Gulf of Oman again to see the difference for myself. It's not accurate frame for frame, this being multiplayer, but should give you a good general idea.

Now I don't know what they did, but whatever it is, it's really good Very Happy

Quick Results:
Settings: 1080p, Ultra, 2xMSAA, No Motion Blur, No FXAA (I turned VSync Off this time)
12.9 Drivers:
Min: 33
Max: 151
Avg: 66

12.11 Drivers:
Min: 53
Max: 126
Avg: 80

12.11 Drivers 4xMSAA
Min: 46
Max: 118
Avg: 77
(The reality was - framerate very rarely dropped under 65. The min of 46 was something I got by detonating a cluster of enemy mines in front of my face for stress testing Very Happy)

To get a clearer picture here are some framerate timelines (at 2xMSAA):
I started both runs from the same points at the opposite ends of the maps (you can see most of the map from there so it really hit the performance before).

This is a quick run (around a minute) from the same point - Veterans Retreat [Edit: it's actually Beach Landing, but whatever Smile](far right if looking from the ocean) overlooking the map to the left and then moving into the city over the bridge.

This one is from the opposite side - far left of the map, looking towards the huge construction building and then moving into the city. Used to get around 50 here:

[it's about2 minutes of runtime here]

A bit messy, but the overall impression: a gain of 15- 20FPS on average in most situations. From hovering around 50, to a relatively solid 70.

I am actually very impressed - I can't believe they squeezed that much performance from the drivers. I didn't notice any outright drop in visual quality either, but I suppose, at some point we might see more through comparisons of that.

Any info on how this affects older cards? My 2 6850s are still good, but I'm curious, and my Google-Fu fails me. :'(

Yeah, those seem to be GCN targeted drivers. I am not sure if one can expect something similar for the 6000 series.

Also, since this hasn't been mentioned in this thread (oddy enough) - the fixed drivers are up already Smile

The 6000-series got the Mjölnir 1 & 2 drivers that did the exact same thing for the 6700/6800/6900-cards.

Hmm, how come this is the first time of me hearing this?!
I never noticed any fps increase with those games they stated... (altho, it might be because of bad timing, i just had my 2600k around that time)

He means in general - those drivers were released over a year ago and provided an increase in performance for different games.
I wasn't talking in general though... I meant it's not likely for them to release a driver like a 12.11 for 6000 series right now.

Fucking fuck sake AMD man, don't they fucking test these drivers before releasing?!

I did notice tho, chrome causes it to crash, aslong as i don't have chrome open, it doesn't crash Confused

Maybe it's some native plugin for chrome that collides with the drivers. Like Flash or Silverlight.

The last 5 versions of Flash has caused many crashes on many browsers. It's notoriously unstable. It can work for a few days, then it crashes the browser when you're watching youtube clips

So were the 7000 series cards running too slow in bf3 and now perform as expected or has there been just some magic increase in speed?

Nothing magic about it, there's always performance to be gained via SW optimizations for new cards.

Beta 4 of that performance driver.
(Earlier today saw beta 3 and yesterday beta 1 leaked but it wasn't meant to be available for download thus beta 2 some hours later.)

And since I'd probably see no benefits from those anyway... Embarassed

6850 crossfire. Apparently an older version of atiumd64.dll cures the problem but i figured i'd just go back to what works properly.
