Atleast I am having a fantastic time playing this on my 360! Haven't played this since it's release and never played the expansion. I seriously forgot how great this game is.

There's no HD texture pack, only the demons have been retextured.

The X-Box version of the original release had vastly inferior textures to the PC version, that's probably what he meant. Smile
(And the PC version is vastly outdated again by current mod texture packs.)

From what I'm reading, it looks like Doom 1 & 2 are new versions (probably XBLA ports) with somewhat improved rendering, modern resolution support, achievements, mouse&kb controls.

This means they probably contain the XBLA exclusive episodes as well.

Of course nobody who knows better will play with the new binaries instead of a source port. I just hope the wads are not packed etc.

Doesn't it look pretty much identical to the original Doom 3, I guess the Lost Missions would be somewhat new though but otherwise there's not much to see.

EDIT: File format is completely different it seems, definitively using parts of IDTech5 so mods and such aren't compatible but that was mentioned by ID themselves earlier.

EDIT: Yeah it's pretty much Doom 3 with a engine update (D3D now I guess.) and some new options plus a map pack.

(It runs at close to 500 FPS. EDIT: It's using FixedTick in the main game it seems, can be disabled but you'll get a severe animation speed increase.)

EDIT: Found the config file.
C:\Users\Jonas\Saved Games\id Software\DOOM 3 BFG\base
(Com_AllowConsole 1 still works, also the main menu is a game screen where you select either Doom, Doom 2 or Doom 3 BFG, those two first titles have their separate WAD files in another folder.)

It's OpenGL. No Rest For The Living is included. Motion Blur looks good. 120Hz as well.

The new lighting not so much.

edit: I find it funny how the original needs something like 30 seconds to load a level even on a modern machine, but this needs only something like 3. Proper multicore support I guess.

They should have created new low poly models from the original 3D Models with 3-4 times more polygons. And added some rudimentary global illumination like CryEngine 3 or the Mafia II Engine.

jobs_numthreads seem set at two, didn't know it was opengl though but there were a few console commands that hinted at it.

Seems to try and reset the config file so I had to change the execution a bit.

C:\Games\Doom3BFG\base\joy_360_0.cfg

In there I added execute test.cfg

Then in test.cfg

set bind home toggle g_showhud
set com_allowconsole 1
set com_skipintrovideos 1
set g_nightmare 1
set g_roenightmare 1
set g_lenightmare 1
set g_showplayershadow 1
set g_skill 2
set image_highqualitycompression 1
set pm_thirdperson 0
set pm_thirdpersondeath 0
set r_maxanisotropicfiltering 16

Will probably find more as I go on through the commands.
(set is important, command won't take without it.)

EDIT: Or not, there wasn't much to adjust.
(pm_thirdperson can be a bit interesting but I set it to only work upon death - edit, it does something different, third person with hud, disabled again - although it's likely not as epic as that movie with the hell knight ripping the guys head off.)

Depends on difficulty level, base game isn't all that long if I remember correctly (Six - eight hours maybe.) and RoE is even shorter and I guess this Lost Maps addon is shorter still, maybe one could be playing for around twenty hours in order to do all of them?
(Probably it's shorter than that unless you try to find all secrets and such.)

EDIT: And yeah IDTech4.1 might perhaps suit better, in terms of modding and customization it is a bit of a downgrade from the original although otherwise there's a number of improvements but I'm on a ATI card and the original doesn't really work all that well on this hardware. Very Happy

Can anyone confirm that this release really have Doom and Doom II with mouse and keyboard support? Or even the games themselves?

It does have Doom 1 and Doom 2, you select one of the three (third one being Doom 3 and those two expansions.) but I've not tried them myself.

EDIT: Yeah they have mouse support (As with most ports of the games now.), otherwise it's just the same game as it was back then.

EDIT: Those two games also don't allow mouse look so you just turn with it or shoot and whatever mouse button 2 might do.
(Can you jump? I doubt it since the game doesn't really have depth or what it was.)

(Just toying around, this looked better back in 2004 ha ha, well it's still a solid game.)

(Yay, console command iddqd, and it's misspelled even, hah.)

(IDDQD? ID I understand but DQD, probably made to be easily accessed, or it's short for "Die quicker, dude")

Those textures in Doom 3 look bad. Are you sure that's the maximum quality? I don't have Doom 3 handy to test, but I think it looked better back then.
