Ok. So it's finally time for an upgrade. Looking to get a barebone system.
I currently have a xp2100, 512 DDR 2700, and a really crappy motherboard that bottlenecks everything!
I would prefer AMD to Intel.
These are the quotes so far:
option1
Case: opt 8024-400
Power Supply: Hiper True Power 425w Dual Fan, Low Noise
Motherboard: Foxconn 8MA-KS Micro-ATX (nVidia NForce 4 chipset, Socket 939 support, PCI-e x16 support)
CPU: Athlon 64 3200+ [2.0Ghz/512kb cache]
Memory: 1.0GB (2x 512MB) Kingston PC3200 DDR
Price £306.00 (£359.55 Inc. VAT)
option 2
This one is from a local store (only do Intel though  )
Case: ermm not sure, default power is 300W
Motherboad: errmmm, cant remember (it was over the phone) but it comes with all the necessary bits, PCI-ex16, 8x USB etc.
CPU: P4 550 [3.4GHz/ 800Mhz/ 1MB]
Memory: 2 x 256MB DDR2
Price around £350 inc. VAT
Which should I choose (bare in mind that the second option is from a local store, which has its benefits)?
Or should I go another route altogether?

tbh the only thing you have right on there is the mobo. if you're gonna downgrade everything else you may as well get a cheaper mobo too because you're gonna have to replace most of it sooner or later anyway. If you're not in a rush wait a while and get a 3800+ X2 It wont be too far out of your budget but will be a much better investment.
edit: oh I might add this Dual core option is only if you wanna go that way. If its just for gaming and not much else you may as well stick with your single core

I was going to get a new pc at http://uk.aldi.com/ looks ok untill I check it out,
Well you lot can check it out aswell and please tell me I have done the right thing by not wanting it..

well the same PC got sold here in Germanys Aldi, too (never thought aldi exists anywhere else except in Austria).
Well mate, you made the right choice. It looks nice at first, but the GFX-Card tears all the good stuff down. I also think its a bit overloaded with features I dont need (Hell, I dont need a Remote Control for my PC, I got my Big-Ass TV for that).
There should be at least a GF6 6600GT in a PC you want to buy, everything under that is not worthy to buy except you want a Office PC where the only Games you play are Solitair and Minesweeper.

np uploader, all info is welcome.
It sucks that for an extra £150 I could get a slightly less powerful pc but with an extra 250GB, memory, keyboard, mouse, etc...
Damn... I'm still undecided.
Do I go for AMD [2GHz] 3200+ or Intel [3.4GHz] 550 processor?
What would you guys choose? Your opinions count.

I would chose the AMD CPU, because the Netburst Architecture of the P4 is not very good in comparison to the new AMD Processors like Venice (the 64bit ones). But also the normal 32bit Processors from AMD are superior to P4's
