resident evil damnation 5.5/10
unnghhh... well... i want to say its better than the previous RE cgi attempt... about the only thing i can say is better, is that it LOOKS better. it still lacks fangs, i still dont feel feel like theres any danger or emergency or any sense of 'shits all fucked' in these films... theres no dread at all, in that i never feel that mankind or even the characters, are ever in any real jeopardy.
i also found i really dont like how they handle the female characters in the movies. theres just something 'off' about it. the fight sequences with them are nice, but it just feels so... childish... how theyre portrayed. i have nothing wrong with sexualised portrayals, but its just SO overly adolescent and immature, its almost unbearable. it honestly wouldnt have seemed out of place if they started moaning and grabbing their own tits every time they talked... and i really mean it, thats how childish it seemed. and i KNOW its not a cultural thing, the japs can do decent female portrayals when they want too... i just figure its got something to do with the demographic and attitudes that the RE games are aimed at.
and ill freely admit it... most of the stuff that happened didnt make much sense to me, because i know nothing about the games. i accept that, i dont blame the film for that, but it would have been nice to make things a bit more accessable. that said, i know that i dont know the background stuff, so i could still roll with it and it didnt bother me too much.
finally... it really was cheesy. i totally acknowledge that this is made ONLY for fans and people that love the game... i accept it, but for someone who knows nothing about the games and doesnt have any fanboy connections to it, i could only really rate the RE films as pieces of entertainment.
and on that note, i still think the anderson RE films are much better. theyre cheesy and dumb, but theyre still less cheesy and dumb than the cgi ones, and atleast theyre written slightly better, lol.
so yeah.. not terrible, but nothing special

Really though, for what it was supposed to be 6/10 +1 for Van Damme.
Many jokes were just too forced imho, but I had a good laugh here and there.

why? technically the japs have had a go at doing a 'legit' couple of movies, and theyre even worse. film doesnt need a reboot, it just needs to move on from its core set of established characters.
the fuck you want good writing and 'deep' plots in a zombie movie  andersons approach is just perfect for this type of film. loud dumb fun. im just bored with the current characters, thats my only real gripe about it.

Snow White and the Huntsman - 7.5/10
My kinda movie I love them fantasy stuff, it's like Tim Burton at times would have been better if he directed it of course, but then it wouldn't be the same movie.
