How do you unlock that ship with a 4 man teleporter? I'd like to try the 4 mantis boarding crew + max defense and maybe some anti-crew weapons and bots. The AI ships with no oxygen could be a problem though.

Forget about the save game, just let me explore in peace Crying or Very sad

It's not my favorite genre, whatever genre this game is, if they made it something like Space Rangers where you can complete missions, buy better ships, trade, jump to different systems then it would be much better.

Still it's fun and addicting.

Aaaaaaa I've just destroyed that damn boss... on easy... it was quite a fight previous few times, but now... I just had luck with augments... faster reload, weapon pre-ignitor.. now it was a breeze. Time for normal I guess... on easy it took me around 6 boss battles to succed... I wonder how many tries I will need on normal >.>

Perhaps this game's success can spawn some alternatives that are more like what you are looking for. I wouldn't mind a game like you described either but I'm kinda happy with this game as it is.
Only thing I want is more events and stuff to add additional variety and replay value, and modding is going to take care of that.

I suppose you could mod this game to remove the rebel fleet chasing you (has already been done) and adding more actual multi-stage quests to give it that feel that you want, as it's entirely possible to create new events.
Only thing that might be in the way is only being able to move forward in the sector map but maybe that can be modded as well, not sure.

Let's hope so... and don't forget, the new Space Rangers HD comes out "sometime 2012" - so that should scratch the itch FTL has given me. I love the idea of the game, everything about it plays right into my tastes, the game itself is magnificent -- but the RNG often just makes it more infuriating than entertaining - I've gotten to Sector 8 many times, but never been strong enough to take on that multi-tiered boss, and I've only beaten the game ONCE and that was by cheating adding fuel/missiles/drons so that I didn't have to waste every bit of scrap on refueling and reloading.

Thanks for the heads up on the fleet chase mod, that should make the game infinitely more enjoyable, now I can explore the galaxy and properly build myself up Very Happy

FUUUUUUU. Made it to the boss with my glorious 4 Mantis boarding crew. Disabled all the weapons except the laser, killed everyone except one guy - so that the AI wouldn't take over and repair stuff. My guys got split up breaking into some smaller rooms, and I suddenly noticed that they were dying. Apparently they destroyed the O2 room in the process. No more oxygen, I couldn't teleport everyone back at the same time and the remaining guys won't survive the cooldown. Got one out, tried to keep one of them alive with a healing bomb but he died, as did the other 2.

And then the guy I left alive on purpose choked to death, AI took over, repaired everything and blasted me to bits, since I only had like one directly damaging weapon with a massive cooldown. I could have jumped away I guess, but it was such a bummer losing 3 elite Mantis boarders I just didn't bother.

Move your guys onto the transporter pads and then hit the button on your interface at the bottom?

I'm not entirely sure how they work either, whether the destination is random or whether you can specify, since it's the one system I've not actually toyed with yet. Cloak is brilliant though - especially with Cloaked Weapons. 15s cloak + cloaked weapons = Great fun Very Happy

last night i had a great run with the stealth cruiser - well, after the starting few sectors where a single drone can blast me to death because of my lack of shields.. Good thing i was lucky in a store.. Also.. the glaive beam i found is just rape mode - it ignores shields.. i had 2 autoloaders so it had reasonable fire rate (those stuff stack right ?) And i just unlocked layer B stealth cruiser - which starts with the glaive beam, wooot

Played a few times and already got a lot of same events - just unlucky or is it really such a low number? For something that's supposed to pretty much be the main element of gameplay, that's a bit disappointing.

Nope, it makes the game FUN again, instead of some pressured mad dash rush into heavy conflicts. If that's your bag, then yeah.. don't use the fleet mod. Me? I wanted to play a scifi roguelike with the awesome ship and gameplay mechanics this has, so cutting that chasing fleet is like a bite of ambrosia Very Happy

Agreed, i just couldn't enjoy the game with the fleet advancing so quickly. I like to explore every part of the map and i was about to give up on the game until installed this mod. And it's still difficult, fire just wiped out my entire crew. Love it now.
