cell shared the best cheappy technice to hide the fact you are seeing low polygon models , you can only blame consoles for that this game has this comic book look , they first was advertised as a real gritty post apocaliptic rpg a pc exlusive .. but when valve got the wiff of MS ass money they when mental and made it a comic themed game that fitted the console audience , the same was done with Id RAGE , when Bethesda said this game should be on consoles too [from one whole game in a gigantic wasteland they split those into two small deserts ... too back they had troubles with optimizing FPS 60 on consoles so they only finished only half of this game ...desert nr 1 ... the second half aka desert nr 2 was made into a sequel... but the sales where so low we don't know if they will make it ... poor poor Carmack Id should have made this AGAIN A PC ONLY GAME ]

Actually, that's completely not true and been confirmed so many times over the years (i.e. here. And, it's not cell shaded, or not true cell shading. It's called 'concept art' and it's a method of rendering cell shaded models in 3D.
The game world is particularly bland and to think that it wouldn't render in glorious HD is naive at best. Take something like Skyrim; open world and highly details. If it were an issue with consoles then I'd actually be pointing the finger at the devs and their chosen middleware.
The decision to go concept art was a design choice rather than a tech choice.
I still remember when the original didn't have that silly cel-shading and was a proper single player story-based game. It looked so good.
That's not to say cel-shading is bad when used properly (like the XIII game and Prince of Persia), but here it's just boring. Mainly because the games are boring.
Im some hours in; level 12. The game is very similar to the first one, but its to early to judge it. Its got to be awesome 4 player split screen^^
How is the story, characters and overal atmosphere? Still absent like in the first game? They said they'd fix it
The story is OK, starts off slow, and judging by the achievements the main story is long enough The atmosphere is very similar to the first one, this time in a different scenery from the start tho.

CGI trailer.... The gameplay one doesn't look any better than ''console'' Borderlands. I prefer the look of the final version. )

i dont get all the hype for this, the 1st game was one the blandest things i have experienced, it was the gaming equivalent of eating plain rice.
maybe i ll check it out, but for now i ll just wait and see how everyone feels about it.
first game was fun in coop, terrible in single player. this one seems to follow the same pattern, except this time it doesn't feel fresh any more, instead it feels like a DLC expansion for B1.
hey i'm level 8 now and i'm stuck at rock paper shotgun fire weapons you get this mission in sanctuary from marcus
it says you need to burn a vandal at the firing range but i don't have bullets who shoot fire
so i can't burn him and i don't get weapons also from marcus

Wow never seen those 'old' Borderlands videos. The non-celshaded visuals do appeal to me. You'd think the cel-shaded was just a filter that could be enabled/disabled from the options menu ... ah well.
