Ok, lemme copy that from hardforums, since no one is responding there.
Hi guys
Finally. I think it's time to replace my oldie 226bw. It was a good screen but the time took it's toll. Background bleeding, TERRIBLE VIEWING ANGLES(And we watch movies from my bed). Bad blacks and way to dark image in dark scenes no matter what settings.
It was a good screen overall, very good considering it was 2007 (oh god it costed me 500 bucks) but 16:10 aspect, bad angles, blacks and bleeding are not fun.
I was going to get a PS3 this month but since it is 16:9 only, it's a good time to "push" the monitor first. So, what are my specifications for it:
-16:9 (1920:1080 because it's most common)
-aspect 1:1 option is a nice bonus
-I think about 24 inches would good. Don't know how screens are doing thses days but anything bigger is also very welcome.
-Good viewing angles (especially angle from looking down - I don't want image to get darker(movies, bed)
-inputs. I have pc(dvi), x360(dvi or vga or hdmi) and planning to get ps3(hdmi or dvi) So I need as much inputs to be able to connect all 3 devices. I think that one dvi, double hdmi and one vga is more than enough. Jack input and output for headphones is also a nice addition(no internal speakers god no), but addition only-not priority.
-black I guess
-226bw was a tft not glossy panel and oh man... it was sooo hard to clean... so Maybe glossy this time ?
-I mainly game (360, pc) on it and watch movies. So response time would be nice(226bw response times were fantastic and isntant for good measure -not sure how displays are handling gaming these days). Don't want to feel a controll lag like my friend who got some shitty screen.
I should be able to stretch to like 260-70 maybe
Thanks guys

I don't think so.. There is prolly something better for that price.
hmmm... what about LG ips lcd models? 24'
They seem to have dsub, dvi and hdmi... people say good thing about LG monitors recently which seems weird.
They say IPS... faster than TN.. hmmm
For sure. I WILL NEVER AGAIN TAKE TN AFTER 226BW

The monitor MUST have dsub, dvi and hdmi ports. I want options for later purpose. Right now I would not use hdmi port anyway

Since when? Any PC monitor worth blinking at will have HDMI as well as dsub and DVI. The wife's Sammy P2450 (which she persists in, yanno, USING so that I can't... grumble) has all three. |
like I said, last I heard. When I read up on using HDMI instead of DVI I read something about the color or something being different or such. It was a while ago, I'll see if I can find it and see what it was all about. It might have even been before hdmi 1.4

Oh THAT! Yeah, that was pre HDMI 1.2 .. really old stuff as far as I can remember.

I'd love to help but I'm still using my old 22" Belinea display, hardly super high end. Werelds is the guy you wanna talk to.

If you want good viewing angles you must get IPS panel, TN is not up for the task. Atleast from here finland you can get Asus VS239H (23" IPS) with HDMI, DVI and VGA for 159€ its on discount tho (around 200€ without so should be in your budget).
You could also get 1440p IPS monitor for that budget, tho its those korean wonders (can get awesome screen or shit, pure lottery). Its 27" but that resolution needs some serious hardware on games tho.

To help you narrow down your search:
- 16:9? No problem, 16:10 is very rare nowadays. Almost every monitor is 16:9
- Viewing angles: you NEED IPS. No TN monitor has decent viewing angles
- 23-24" is fine, although there are now dirt cheap 1440p 27" monitors (google "Korean IPS 1440p" and you should get plenty hits)
- A decent featured monitor also has no problem with 1:1 pixel mapping
- DVI will be no problem, nor will HDMI be. Getting 3 of them is a bit trickier though, but there are enough with DVI + 2xHDMI. I don't know what graphics card you have right now, but is DisplayPort an option perhaps?
- Audio throughput is typically reserved for higher end models, but doable.
- Fuck glossy. It's harder to keep clean, because every spec is twice as visible. Cleaning a monitor is still piss easy though, just get a microfiber cloth (you can get them for like 1-2 EUR tops..for 5 of them at once).
- Response time is not an issue. A decent IPS panel @ 6ms has the same input lag and response time as a TN panel at 2ms, roughly. That's excluding 120 Hz displays obviously.
As for any recommendations: an older Dell U2311 if you can still find one (bit hard nowadays though). U2312HM isn't bad either.
Now these may be out of your price range, but I've got an Eizo FS2332 and it's absolutely fantastic. I've also tested an early prototype of the new FS2333 a while ago (proud to say my feedback made them adjust their profiles a bit \o/) and it does everything the FS2332 does just a tad better. Not sure which shops you can order from, but if you want I'll ask when there's stock again on here. I'm a bit biased because I'm very close to Fnatic; they're a client and I've been working with/for them for 7 years, that's also how I got to test the FS2333 prototype. Awaiting delivery of an FS2333 (got the 2332 for free as well), but heck, I'd pay for them if I had to. The first one (2331) and second one were also both recommended by FlatpanelsHD for gaming and I have no doubt Rasmus (the FPHD guy, not our humper ) will find the same with the 2333 once he receives it. We had the exact same thoughts on the 2332 as well so.
They also have the inputs you need (VGA, DVI and 2xHDMI). Internal speakers, but you don't have to use them; can just do audio throughput as well.
Before the FS2332 I had an LG W2253V and a Samsung 206BW. Now, the LG already puts the Sammy to shame, but trust me when I say that even the LG has nothing on the Eizo. Compared to your 226BW (which is the same as my 206BW; same panel range) it'll be like day and night.

uhm why not buy a led or LCD tv instead from SAMSUNG and use it as a monitor ?
they are now ultra cheap and sammy is always the way to go ,
like Samsung UE22ES5000 a 22'' LED for 900zł or with tice the size for the same size but with more plugs for hdmi but with LCD
the main difference of a LED and LCD is the life time and ... podświetlenie matrycy jedna jest podświetlana przez 5 neonówek to te LCD a druga przez diody , a która jest leprza to zależy już tylko od ciebie LCD wytrzymuje od 5 do 7 lub 9 lat [nkt tego tak dobrze nie wie bo to są neonówki a jak wiadomo w każdym momencie może je szlag trafić] a LED 10 lat
według mnie kup sobie telewizor LCD albo LED , LCD są teraz tanie jak barszcz , prześlij sobie dzwięk przez hdmi i podepnij sobie kompa przez hdmi do tego cacka ... i będziesz miał ten sobie nowy xbox720 lulz

ips is a type of panel, just as tn. IPS means in plane switching, and tn twisted nematic iirc, it's all about how the pixels are lay out, and the technology behind it.
And trust me, you don't want to go to TN, it's really crappy compared with the ips, because of the viewing angles and the color reproduction.
I have my heart set out on Dell U2412M. It has eIPS panel, and it's cheap. You get 24" inch IPS monitor that will do it's job very well
Or you can go with one of the 27" Crossover 1440p monitors. There is a thread here about it. It's a beast, but I realized that I wouldn't have anywhere to put it, and that my comp is too weak to handle such great resolution (my gpu that is)...

LED is only the backlight.
A monitor or TV consists of a bunch of layers. The LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) layer is where all this panel stuff happens. TN and IPS are a form of passive matrix TFT (Thin Film Transistor), AMOLED is an active form. Plasma is a whole different thing.
Behind this TFT layer it is the lighting, which is where the LED part comes in. CRT monitors used a cathode ray tube, basically a massive lightbulb. TFT monitors used to come only with CCFL lighting; cold cathode fluorescent lighting - essentially a TL lamp like you see in most offices. More recently LED has been used, because LEDs have higher (relative) luminance (resulting in higher brightness, better contrast) with lower power consumption when compared to CCFL. With that there are two types of LED lighting as well (although this mainly applies to TVs): edge-lit and back-lit with local dimming. The former is the more common one, the latter is the better one because it allows for much better contrast control.
So, a "LED" monitor doesn't tell you shit about whether it's TN or IPS. Similarly, a monitor being TN/IPS doesn't tell you whether it has LED or CCFL backlighting. The above is extremely simplified and not even 100% correct as far as the terms I used go, but you get the idea
Oh, and next time, mention a currency, you only said you'd stretch to "260-270", had I known you meant USD I wouldn't have suggested the Eizos

So I have to go TN ?
How are nowadays tn viewing angles compared to 226bw
I was really hoping to get a good monitor for 250-300... Sure I've paid 500$ for 226bw but that was 6years ago. My first salary from shipyard. Almost whole month of work :d
I am not expecting wonders. Just a solid fullhd screen, bigger than mine.
edit:
What about this?
