My 12 (soon to be 13) yr old son wants to start mixing/creating his own music tracks, this is something I have never tried so I really have no clue. So:

What is one of the easiest to learn?

What is the most user friendly? (same question as above I suppose)

Something not too bloated with pointless features?

Something he can mix existing tracks into and basically 'mess' about with them?

Suitable for a tech minded 13 yr old?

Possibly free but if not that's ok

Cheers for any suggestions.

I should have mentioned he is pretty lazy (all you youngsters seem to be Smile ) So he is better off starting off with a very simple app then working upwards as he gains knowledge. Something he can easily add two or more tracks to, add effects, play with the bass/treble etc and save the output to mp3. I will try the above but please keep the suggestions coming.

Thank you for the suggestions so far.

For simple mixing i would recommend virtual dj or traktor.

You could even try sourcing the original eJay products, like Total eJay etc... they're fantastic for beginners and can make some pretty good stuff. My elder brother used to love the eJay series -- though I don't know if they even exist any more.
