mind you, my argument is correct, try it yourself, i just removed the images cuz what the hell noone cares, its your loss i dont care Very Happy play with your distorted views who cares!

Your argument is only correct for 4:3 CRT monitors (and even there you can resize the image). Most people who use 1280x1024 have a 17" or 19" inch LCD monitors. These have a 5:4 aspect ratio. I don't know if games offer a 1280x1024 resolution, but even if they don't it is not a problem as some LCD can scale down the image, wich results in small black stripes.

And btw, 1280x1024 was long used before 1280x960 was invented, even on 4:3 CRT. Take old IBM RS 6000 or HP-UX machines with their corresponding monitors, they all used 1280x1024 a long time ago, that's why CRT's have a function to resize the image Razz

Using 1600x1200 @ 85hz @ home

using some weird widescreen res @ work (Sun Microsystems computer with the biggest fucking screen ever, too bad it is old as hell and the computer can't run shit)

Anything below 1280x1024 is not usable... Even if 1280x960 is indeed the correct 4:3 so is 1280x1024 better from my pov..

1152x864 FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!! PERFECT blend between readability (1024) and plenty pixels for games (1280)!!!!!! NOthing can beat it!!! eat my shorts if u dont like it Very Happy

And wtf is up with 1280?!??!?
1280x960 is what you get if you take a 800x600 or 1024x768 image and scale it in proportions to 1280.....
I will not give in!!!! Examples!!!!:::

http://baleur.ath.cx/800x600originalscale.jpg
800x600 Original Scale, this is the most common resolution, we all know it is proportionally accurate to normal 4:3 screens.

http://baleur.ath.cx/1280x960scaledproportionally.jpg
1280x960 This is the same image scaled up to 1280 using the same 4:3 proportions..

http://baleur.ath.cx/1280x1024scaledunproportionally.jpg
And this is the same image scaled up to forced 1280x1024, note the wrong proportions. Why is this mode preferred???? Insanity i tell you!!

Sorry for that but I MUST KNOW!!!!! Someone explain lol..

But everyone is using 1280x1024?!?? Then the screen is streched up!
Are people using 1280x1024 because they "THINK" it is to scale just because 1024 in the end "sounds" cooler?
Or is there some kind of ingame-auto-adjust shit going on??
Cuz every game that i have used 1280x1024 in has ALWAYS gotten distorted, are you telling me so many people are playing distorted games and dont even think about it? LMAO!!!!!

had you not noticed, most recent LCD monitors go the "widescreen" way, and pick size of 16:9 ratio, instead of the traditional 4:3 ratio. 1280*960 is 4:3, 1280*1024 is 16:9. 1280*1024 on a widescreen monitor is not deformed.

I'll be the one nice enough to spell it out for you instead of making fun Razz

Monitor size and resolution are two different things. A pixel is not a metric unit. Right click on windows backgroud, select properties, look in settings, screen area and BAM! there it is! Very Happy

btw, your 18" monitor is ~46cm

I use 1280x1024 @ 85hz
I would have used 1600 x 1200 but my screen does only support it at 60hz.
The bigger the better ! Razz
