Yeah and the politicians that support this (mainly Republicans) makes one wonder what is the driving force behind it. Control over the masses? Preservation of a White and Christian dominated country? Corporate greed?

Eh I guess even liberals these days need some indication when to laugh. I try to watch all his shows, one thing I have noticed his audience is quite slow to react. Majority is probably hired to attend.
@Lutzifer: Very good vid from QualiaSoup, that also shows that militant atheism is not the way. Sometimes I get the feeling that the atheists on this forum are far more intolerant than the religious people. In fact majority of religious people here do not speak openly about it with a few exceptions like Mister_s, Pumpy, ChinUp and some others.
i think your perception of atheists being intolerant comes from the fact that we - as a culture - are used to being overly accommodating to religious feelings / demands to the point were we are completely uncritical and subservient. I think it is high time that all those privileges that relgion has - like being free of criticism in the public debate and having their own sets of law etc - need to be abolished. Since that is a big step away from the culture we have now, those with the privileges get very annoyed by it and bystanders perceive it as "aggressive" or "militant" when it is nothing more than the same scepticism we usually use for all other entities / topics.
But dont get me wrong, I m fine with religious people believing their things and doing their rituals as long as they do it on their own and do not demand special priviliges. We do see the opposite though in a lot of times and public debate and political decisions are majorly skewed skewed towards religious opinion in most cases.
Hmm in one thread in the "World News" section I once said that I am more an agnostic atheist which is a philosophical point of view. Man I got some shit thrown at me and none willing to look into what I said. The thread about fucking feminists was about intolerance. If you want to send a honest message, you need reason instead of intolerance. If needed, reason with the ones who are intolerant and show everyone they are bigots and idiots.
I guess none is going to comment so might as well put some more ideas out.

What about this? Once the religious population reaches 15% or so, we ban the religious teaching to children. The children don't have any means to defy it and shouldn't be subjected to it. If your mum and dad tell you when you are 16 or so, that they are religious and want you to become religious as well, you have more of a free choice.

i think he does not want to get rid of religious education but rather get rid of religious schools. I doubt that he would have anything against "religion" being taught in school, as long as it is not a school run by churches.

Yep he has a live audience, but does that make the laughter real? Live audiences can do clapping and cheering really well, but laughing in time with the right volume? My hearing says, it is recorded.

Yep, that quote is dead-on accurate. I'd venture to say that 95%+ of the high school graduates in this country don't know what year WW2 started, or what a neutron is.
