EDIT: as i said, the above 75hz is for CRT monitors, other ways of projection (TFT, interlaced on TV, and double frames in cinema) are "easier on the eyes"
as for the notion that "the eyes" cant see more, here is a paper that should help you understand, that it is not the eyes with which we see, but with our brains (i.e. visual "limitations" stem from areas of the visual cortices and seem to be modifiable by learning / experience).

Worth noting that the quote above does only apply to CRT monitors; almost everyone I know can see fluorescent lamps flickering and guess what? That's 100-120 Hz depending on the powergrid in your country. Also, it not only depends on the source, also on what exactly you're looking at; Neon's link is a simple example. A fast moving object must be displayed with more frames per second for our brains to perceive it as "fluid".

TL;DR version: yes, you're still a retard if you think we "see" in FPS, our brains "see" in FPS or that there is a limit as to what we can "see" in general. Our brains/eyes aren't machines, they are highly flexible and dynamic and aren't as simple as you think
