Quote: | Blizzard Entertainment has always taken cheating in any form in Blizzard games very seriously, and that's no different for Diablo® III. If a Diablo III player is found to be cheating or using hacks, bots, or modifications in any form, then as outlined in the Diablo III end user license agreement, that player can be permanently banned from the game. This means that the player will be permanently unable to log in to Battle.net® to play Diablo III with his or her account.
Playing Diablo III legitimately means playing with an unaltered game client. Doing otherwise violates our policies for Battle.net and Diablo III, and it goes against the spirit of fair play that all of our games are based on. We strongly recommend that you avoid using any hacks, cheats, bots, or exploits. Suspensions and bans of players that have used or start using cheats and hacks will begin in the near future. |

Wonder how many people will be banned in this first wave.

If the authentication service is busy, the login
checkbox will now wait at "Authenticating
Credentials" until a player's login attempt can
be processed. As a result, players should no
longer encounter Error 37 when logging in.

If you play from the same IP address, the game will only ask for your authenticator about once a week. I've spammed my password plenty during the error-ridden-evenings ^^

Eh, that's not correct, at least not with the authenticator app. It asks me for the auth code on every login.

There is an option somewhere, so that it on only asks you once a week or something. I don't remember when was the last time I had to put my code, well i did reset my router last week so it asked me then....but I rarely see it these days

When I signed up I had 2 options, every login, or once a week. This was a week ago.

yeah, these days, dhcp leases rarely expire anymore. Not like 10 years ago, when it actually reset once a day, usually during the night, disconnecting everything etc.

epic solution, hidden queue basicly instead of upgrading hardware to be able to handle shit. im guessing they are done pumping in more dollars into the game as they know it was a huge fail, they gonna keep it afloat, nothing more nothing less

if you had paid ANY attention, you would know i haven't.
But as always, i don't support BS and will call it as it is.

There's one thing I find rather hillarious about those bans.
Consider this: (official) main reason for Blizzard's choice of "online only" experience, highlighted both by Blizzard and their stalwart defenders (on this board too) was to fight the cheaters, hackers and so on. Stop them. As in: make it impossible to cheat in the game. Now, after all is said and done, it turns out that not only is cheating entirely possible, it's also not much harder than it was in Diablo 2 and the only good defense is... banhammer. The good, ol' banhammer that - it just so happens - is a tool entirely from Diablo 2's times. Hell yeah! "Online-only" structure sure made the game so much more secure! Against hacking and cheating both!
Also, what's even funnier, is the fact that getting banned - for any reason whatsoever, justified or not so much - also robs you of the ability to play the game solo. Great. If I ever needed a reason not to get this game, this would probably be in top 3. Possibly the first. Inability to to use even stupid, client-side only, graphical mods without the fear of getting your game completely and irreversibly wasted is such a great idea.

Meh, gold is useless for me then I guess. My memory of Diablo 2 isn't very clear, but I don't remember gold was useless. I never played Diablo 2 online, I don't remember ever swimming in gold (as I am now).
PS. I'm not going to claim this game failed (it's fun), but Diablo breaking pre-sale records is as useless as DA2 breaking pre-sale records. The name sells, not the game.

gold was the most useless thing in d2.
Sure you could gamble, but the chance of getting anything ever were slim to none lol (and most just did it to get rid of all the useless gold).

We know by now that the reason for their decision for going online-only was the RMAH not the cheaters or the hackers. This was a pure business decision.

if you cant see that d3 is failing hard you might need glasses, its prolly the biggest failrelease this century
the only thing saving em right now is that everyone preordered and bought it while still thinking "well atleast blizz is really good at polish", thats why "they made millions"
the trainwreck was when everyone hit inferno and started to realize how the game worked and how its built up around getting more cash, its a product made to exploit weak minds, nothing else really
try a release of another blizz game now, or even a re-release of d3.... i bet any indie bs game would sell twice the amount of copies now that people have opened their eyes
tl:dr the games quality/design had absolutely nothing to do with the huge amount of sales, it was hype and name recognition that earned em all that cash

Game has it's share of flaws but is far from being a failure.
In other news:
Diablo 3 Being Called "Big Pineapple" in China to Dodge Sales Ban
Quote: | Vendors on one of China's largest e-commerce platforms are resorting to calling the hit PC game Diablo 3 "Big Pineapple," which sounds similar in Mandarin Chinese, as a way to dodge the site's censors. The site has banned the sale of the overseas product pending a review from government authorities. |
I dunno about you guys, but that's what I'm calling it from now on.
