Soooo... When can we expect Battlefield 3 on Steam? I mean, one more sale is better than not, right? Also, EA's obviously a forward-looking publisher, so it's going to want it's content on any and every platform possible. It's not like it's trying to create a monopoly where DLC is concerned. Because that's not a smart company.

Eurgh. Stupid hypocrite. Get the DA2 DLC on something other than the BioWare store then talk about getting people's product everywhere.

an announcement will likely be made a month or so AFTER the games launch, and up until then they were absolutely and totally deny that it will ever be on steam.

someone said that its 100% impossible that bf3 can operate on anything other than origin... i dont really believe that.. i think it'll show up on steam after EA's pushed as many origin-dependant installs as it thinks it can off the back of the game.

For a glorified EA downloader it's not exactly fast and responsive...I especially like the 2sec system freeze while booting this piece of shit.

Yeah I get that as well with the later builds (Even latest beta version.) will try to monitor what it actually does or initializes there.
(Other than that thought it's OK but needs work, EA Downloader worked better than this and the extra functions are unnecessary as I see it.)

True. I hope it stays simple for some time. That's all I need from an app like that. Download+Play.

(might need to register for full story)

"Speaking as part of a series of interviews conducted at Gamescom, published in full today, various Electronic Arts executives spoke about the launch of Origin, which they believe will become much more than a place to buy games. Newly promoted COO Peter Moore was keen to play up its social aspect.

"It will absolutely become a social network," says Moore. "I'm already using it every day to see what friends are doing, to understand what coming from EA, plus you'll see announcements over the next few weeks of third-parties coming on board and having their content becoming available. We love the fact that we can deal directly with our consumers." "

just remember, Origin is nothing else but the continuation of

EA Download Manager

EA Link

Both of which apparantly failed ... (or why rename them)

They are all 3 identical, with slightly (really slightly) different skins lol.

Heh... Tbh, I don't get the Facebook style aspect of it. EA are already working on Facebook games - why not just do what Steam did and tie Origin accounts to Facebook? It seems unlikely regular gamers are going to use Origin/Battlelog to do much outside of games, so why waste resources? And it's not like there's a huge casual market within Origin - they're already playing Sims games on Facebook.

“When we met with the EA team and discussed their long-term vision for Origin, we were excited to lend our weight to their efforts,” said Christian Svensson, senior vice president at Capcom Entertainment. “We hope to expand our PC fanbase for our legendary brands on Origin.”

EA doesn't even want to pretend that DA2 is anything more than action game anymore. Laughing Which is good.

Now time for Biowere to admit the truth and be fair with their costumers.

EA: Origin needs two years to reach potential

Electronic Arts COO Peter Moore believes that the scepticism surrounding the company's Origin digital distribution platform has now subsided.

Speaking with Kotaku, Moore stated that the negative voices have "quieted down," and that the Origin would need another two years to fulfill its potential.

"I don't think you see the initial level of vitriol," he said. "And I've been in gaming long enough [that I know that] if you try to add something that's different, and particularly if you add the layer that it's EA and everything that goes with it."

"It's one of those things where I would ask give us 18 months to two years. And if we sit here two years from now, start looking at it then. I think the ability to have your own direct platform with the consumer is going to be very important in the digital world going forward."

Moore cited Valve's now ubiquitous Steam - Origin's major rival - which was widely criticised when it first launched in late 2003. The objections from consumers were much the same; that, to access games they wanted to play, it was necessary to sign-up for the service.

"If you go back and dust off the transcripts of when Steam first came out, it had the same reaction. People didn't like it. You were obligated."

"[Valve] provided, over the years-to Gabe and the team's credit-value to the gamer. Those first 12 months were very rocky."

"We need to continue to add social layers so there is value to the consumer," Moore continued, "so it doesn't feel like, in their words, 'something that is mandatory that I don't want.'"

As of last week, Origin had 9.5 million registered users, and had generated $100 million in sales. EA also revealed that 4 out of every 10 The Old Republic players were using the service.

Huh.

EA just added a Dead Space 2 copy to one of 2 the origin accounts I have (bombarded some people here on the boards with friend requests from the other one just now BTW, better accept it or... Mad).
The key matches with the "free one" that steam prompted you when you bought the game a couple of weeks ago.

Not on origin at least, but I saw it with -50% on gamersgate a couple of months back, so who knows if they might do a -75% eventually.
They or any other online store. Wink

So rather than reaching even more gamers, they'd rather keep their profit-margin as high as possible. Sounds like something Kotick would say, to be honest, oh well... par for the course for EA.
