Must be a Win8 beta issue or a early driver issue for Windows 8 then unfortunately (ATI released compatible drivers yesterday for the preview version released the day before.) , I don't have that problem here.

I am running Release Preview with amd_catalyst_win8_release_preview...
This...is ARG! I guess I need to go back to Win7..meanwhile I am transfering iso images to my laptop and see if ruskie key will work ... |

window popped up thought it was preloading
i watch aliens... check preload status... there was a 2nd button to confirm preload...  GAAAAAAY

damn was sure it unlocked after it downloaded the update but game wont launch still waiting i guess..if anyone who got the key from g2PLAY makes it work let me know..

There's a lot of data for it to go through but there's not that many actual files, unsure how exactly Steam encryption works but it does slow down a bit if there's a lot of files or a large amount of data for it to go through.
(It usually also goes fairly slow in the beginning and then starts speeding up.)

my rig is getting amazing performance, butter smooth. a friend of mine with a i7 930 and 480 maxed out with 2x msaa is getting almost 200 fps

Holy fuck, either the in-game counter is wrong, or it runs at +100 FPS at the settings mentioned above. It's silky smooth!
