Something is fucked up with my network recently. I've called my isp and they are saying that everything is alright on their side.
I have this dir300 router for like 4 years and it wasn't really causing a problems.

Recently it is dropping internet access(not wifi connection) after like 30-60 minutes (or even shorter). At first I was just restarting it from the browser to get internet access back. Then after a few days I did hard reset to it and just reinstalled the whole thing to be sure, but it didn't help. I have dynamic ip network based on the mac given to isp. it is an old mac from laptop machine we don't even have anymore. Standard stuff with dhcp settings.

Then I found an option to just renew dhcp and it works just as restarting the whole router. Just faster.

Default dhcp lease time is set to 24 hours. Are there any cons setting it to 30 minutes ?

thanks aeon. "D" is a couple of keys from "T"... I don't have any idea... wha Confused

Anyway. Do You mean refreshing dhcp manually ? That is only a temporary solution... it's basically the same as restarting the router... just faster.

I am and i've fixed the problem myself. just unsure if lease times these short could cause any problems. but it seems not
Cisco is not clear on that. It explains that lease time should be smaller for big networks with plenty of computers, so addresses are refreshed more often for more devices.

networking a company and networking in home are 2 different things. having isp rules, cripple Your capabilites Razz
And having dir300 is also very crippling

For a home network I would put the lease time as days, and with an appropriate subnet to ensure if anyone tries to jump on the network they won't be able to. I usually use a /29 subnet myself.

god fucking damn it !

It is driving me nuts and bolts over here.

I am loosing internet access like 3 times per hour. I have to go into router options and renew dhcp myself.

And even that, sometimes doesn't work and I have to restart it.

Anything else that I could try?

Aren't you the one that wants to become an IT professional and you can't figure out static routes?

Laughing yep, but let say that I am not the best student right ? Laughing
I can program 48port switches and routers tho Cool Laughing

but hey? What can I do when the shit is broken? I've tried everything I can with it and it just acts weird. The important thing is that directly connencted cable works. It just craps out over wifi for no reason. Any recommendations on new router ? I want something cheap and nothing fancy. just like that dir300. it lasted 5 years without problems.

And I am limited to what my isp provider allows.

Ofc I will try some options with this. maybe You want to explain what You mean by static routing ? I tried setting static ip on this screen and just typing in the address. maybe I had it wrong for some reason. Addresses are fucking stupid Laughing

KC, noticed you use uTorrent. Try disabling uTP protocol.

Preferences --> BitTorrent --> Enable bandwidth management [uTP]

I'd say your router is dying then. 4 years is a long time for a D-link... (or maybe for almost any router)
